Been seeing a lot just not close enough. Had a monster I call Niner at 40 yrds yesterday morning. Another buck before that that looked shootable early on. It has been a morning gig lately with evenings being pretty slow. The first does have been breed which makes all the bucks travel some. I have to go back to work this next week for training which really sucks. Late season is always a favorite time for me so with only this weekend left I’ll turn my focus long range to December. The gun season always brings an army to Wisconsin woods. I can only imagine how many good bucks will see the light during that time. Congrats to those team members who have been successful and good luck to those still hunting.
My buddy had a pretty wild night and was able to take a decent buck! So pumped for him. He’s a little bummed because he had a bigger deer in range but was chasing a doe and never stopped. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ya he’s happy with him. Except that he had a bigger buck run by 15 minutes earlier but he couldn’t get it to stop. I have a target if I get home in time for some bow hunting before gun season! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
So a true giant went down last evening. Ill share the story in the coming days but wanted you all to know there is upwards of 165” coming our way. The story: I shot him at 4pm Saturday as he came into a small pond on my property. He drank and then presented me with a moving quartering away shot which I hit him a little further back then I wanted to. I watched him bed twice and let him go over night. The one thing I will say is after he got up from the second bed there was some breaking sticks and crunching leaves but I thought he was just going through the thick brush. Sunday I returned with 2 friends as I knew I hit guts but also knew I had about 20” of penetration into the abdomen of the deer. We found the deer 75 yards from the stand cold dead. He was dead when I left the stand Saturday. I am glad I left him over night but doing so caused a lot of smell and I’m concerned the meat is spoiled. I did wash him off after skinning and have him hanging to see if the smell will go away. (I’ve never got shot a deer before.) He is my biggest by bow and the biggest I had on camera this season.
