Checking in! Little bit about myself. From my BHOD name you can probably figure out that I'm from Vermont. Im 53 and have been bow hunting since I was 15 or so. Our season starts October 1. There aren't huge Bucks here, a 120 would be a monster where I hunt. In the entire State only two deer in an average year are shot over 160. The good news is that I also hunt in NJ. Ya wouldn't think so but there are some giants in western Jersey. NJ season will start for me September 16. I have to shoot a Doe first and then ill be Buck hunting right on through the close of the season in mid February. Nice meeting everyone.
Welcome! Our friends just got back from Vermont and Maine. From all of their pics it looks like a beautiful part of the country.
My name is Brandon, I'm from eastern OK. I have had a lease for the last 5 years but this month I gave it up. My wife an I bought a new house and the neighbor has 60 acres he lets me bow hunt. I also hunt public land in OK (that's where the buck in my profile pic came from last year). This year I was lucky enough to pull a KANSAS archery tag. I'm excited to get up there and chase a few around. I also normally hunt my buddies lease in northern Missouri every year. In two weeks I'm headed to Colorado to chase elk around. Things are about to kick off and I couldn't be more ready.
Hey guys, a 63, though you'll see me saying 64, yr old NY Finger lakes Grandma here. That's just one of my quirks. I have been shooting since I was little but bow hunting since my 30's. I taught my kids to bow hunt, both have gotten deer but I'm the only bow hunting "nut" in the family. I hunt our 73 acres at home and some at our 68 acre camp. Though that's mainly for the guys where home is only me. I'm shooting a mission and mainly G5 100 grain on a 31" arrow. This is because I have always shot instinctive, rt. Hand left eye dominate I need a longer arrow. A couple of yrs ago I made myself a saddle and use it mainly out of my stands . Sitting on stand bothers my back and the saddle relieves that. Most all bucks taken over the years have been bow bucks. Actually most Deer in general have been bow. I also take advantage of the lower distance from building requirements in gun season by usiing my Wicked ridge warrior crossbow. Sept. has me taking my shooting practice from ground to stands. I practice with a cube and 3 arrows at random distances. I'll shoot a distance until it's perfect then change distances and angles. Using 3 arrows builds my stamina ,arms, legs and causes me to have the same type of breathing issues I get seeing a big buck. It's a lot of climbing up and down a 16ft ladder. Forces concentration...lol I've lost 70#'s since last July so hunting this year will be a little different. Not in time or effort ,if you've read my past post. It will be in how and if I can handle the cold weather. Also I'll have less knee pain so getting deer out of our rougher terrain will be easier and I'll hunt that more. Good luck to all of you and stay safe while having a blast.
Very beautiful state this time of year and the Fall. Very cold and snowy in the winter, also beautiful, but creates challenges.
I am in Maine but I mostly hunt in Kansas. I don’t have a lot of time to hunt at home but I usually have a week straight in Kansas where I hit it hard.
I have shot 3 good bucks in 10 years on public land. Right now my buddy is supposed to close on 200 acres in St. John Kansas in 2 weeks, so my hunting should even get better.
Those are some great deer. We have friends that go up every year and usually kill good bucks. I'm hoping my buddy and I both get on one up there. We are only 3 hours away so we should get plenty of time to chase them.
My name is Daniel and I’m from south east Iowa. I’ve been bow hunting since I was 12 (31) now. This year is a bit strange for me. I am currently deployed overseas but I’m due to be home mid November to early December. I’ll have 30 days of non stop hunting when I do get home. Wish I was getting home in time for the rut but my buddy planted some food plots for me to hunt during the late season. Last year was my best year ever. I shot 2 bucks, one with bow and one with a shotgun. Over 300” combined. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Hello everyone. I’m a retired SWAT /K-9 handler from Ohio. Looking forward to contributing this year!
Sounds like a dream year you had! 30 days in a row to hunt would be awesome. Stay safe over there! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I’m very safe. And ya it was a great year. Pretty pricey taxidermy bills. Haha. I won’t be able to hunt the whole 30 days but while the wife and kids are at school and work I will be free! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
