Still grinding, hope to get out again Thursday and maybe Friday before gun starts here. I should have a great window around Christmas also when our Bow opens back up, and I have a great late season spot. Just haven't had anything worth shooting for me yet. Need to take a doe but waiting until after rut, then I'll take whatever doe comes by.

I just realized I have 3 preference points for Iowa. Won’t be long and I’ll be back for redemption. I also have 8 points for elk/mule deer in Wyoming and a point for Kansas. I’m going to have some trips to take pretty soon. Anybody else have any potential trips for next season?

I have a black bear hunt booked in Maine first week of season. It's me, my two cousins and my two uncles going. I'm the only one going with a bow. Should be a blast! Usually go to Nebraska in the spring to turkey hunt but this year I can't go cause my fiance is due Feb. 11th so will have a newborn and just moving into our new house so I put Nebraska on hold for another year.

Oh wow congrats, that’s great. I think I’d like to go on a bear hunt. Not sure about eating them? It would be cool to see some up close though.

I have tried a bear burger and it was good but not great lol. Everyone tells me its all in how you cook it but feel like I would want to over cook it cause i don't want to chance on getting trichinosis. We will see though, my guide says roast and steaks are really good.

Like I posted before Ohio late season in a couple weeks for me with South Eastern Outfitters. I think this will be my last booked hunt for a while as we are looking for land in Kentucky, WV or Tenn. I’d like to find a piece down there and use the money I would normally spend on hunts and use it as a payment on my own piece. Funny I’ve been to Kansas, Missouri, Ohio for hunts and I’ve killed my biggest bucks in NY.

I’ve only done two paid whitetail hunts,Iowa and South Dakota. Didn’t kill in Iowa because I was an idiot and couldn’t quite get it done in SD no shot on shooters.

My buddy that likes to go on these trips is financial well off for me I’m not suffering but it takes me a little more time to round up the money also not saying I don’t like to go because I do.

Time and money, one of them is always in shorter supply than we would like.

I also have 3 points in Iowa and 1 in Kansas. Have had the Iowa points a long time. I only did one guided hunt 15 years ago in Illinois. Never again. I have private land to hunt in Kansas and would do public in Iowa when I finally decide to go.

Bad experience on the guided hunt? Let’s hear it, out those scoundrels.

I could see hunting public in Kansas because it’s a little bit easier to get. Iowa takes to long and is too far for me to get boots on the ground.
I’ve done a bunch of guided waterfowl hunts and I can only think of one that was sub par.

I’ve never been on a fully guided hunt. Usually they take us out first day in camp and go over stand/ blind locations. My only complaint I’ve really had with any of them is because of my own preference of not wanting to be super high up in the tree. Multiple hunts I’ve been on I’ll get to a stand location and the dang stand is 20 to 30 feet. I don’t like heights and it doesn’t matter if I’m tied in or not. Other issues are stands not being level or a big not on the tree in your back. Kansas hunt were know for crooked stands, Ohio and Missouri so were to high for me to be comfortable.

Well, no dice on Thursday. Finally have a giant that wondered in, 160-170. He stayed out too far in the field that night. Too good to pass up, so if I get a shot on him with the gun this next 3 weeks I am gonna take him. He's a dandy. I almost hope he survives to the end of gun so I can chase him with a bow, but wonder if he's not out roaming.

Sorry for the lack of posts lately. I’m usually in the live from the stand thread… but I haven’t been live from the stand. I’ve got 5 cell cameras out and am getting maybe 1 or 2 pics at night. It was -15 to -20 lows last week so I didn’t go.

Have had a head cold this week and on top of that I haven’t been able to sleep at all. Maybe 4 hours a night. It’s been a struggle.

I have an ice fishing trip planned this coming Thursday-Sunday. I hope to get out a few times so I can contribute to the team.

It’s been a really rough season.

I have 3 Iowa points as well. I likely won’t try to apply until I have 5 though. Will 95% do public.
