Handled my warranty issue on the Scott release this morning. It will be sent to me by Thursday, just in time to hunt for the weekend.

Apparently, my release is not being made any longer and the part that they do a warranty on, they say will keep happening, so he offered me 25% off the next model up.

Anyone use a swept back trigger-wrist release and how do you like them if so? My was a straight shaft design. I'll have to shoot a bunch Thursday to make sure I am comfortable with it before this weekend.

No luck for either of us yesterday evening. My son had two small 8's and 8 does come in and I go skunked... Looking forward to the cold front coming in the end of this week. High of 63 Friday and high's around 70 for Saturday and Sunday.

Got back from Colorado this past weekend. Didn't connect with any elk but had an absolutely great time. I was at full draw on a huge cow at <20 yards for 30-45 seconds but didn't have a clear shot. I am second guessing myself now, wanting to know what would have happened if I had released the arrow but I didn't and we'll never know. We saw lots of elk, heard lots of bugling, and had an excellent time.

Now time to focus on whitetail.

    Happy Opening Day!

Lots of elk had already found their safe zones on public ranches

What's the hardest part of an elk hunt for you personally? Did you train in the gym with a lot of cardio months in advance? It's something that I am curious on for future hunts.
it's more of a curved "trigger" style like a gun. I guess we will see how it goes come Thursday when I get to shoot it.

The front will not hit my area early part of the week next week.... Still looking at highs possibly in the 80s and low 60s.

Do you guys ever notice that once the fronts start coming, it seems to be very patterned for the rest of the year. For example, last year the fronts were hitting my area mid- week time frame, only to have the south winds back by the weekend :(

I hope this pattern doesn't continue by having a front hit early in the work week each time.

Battling the thin air and climbing over tons of dead trees.

It's a whole new world out there. Completely different from whitetail hunting. It's exciting but the most challenging thing I've perused

Agree, plus its a red moon this week with peak being 6:29 Friday evening... I'm taking Friday afternoon off and hoping to be in the stand by 2-2:30. Checked a camera today where I hunted Sunday evening and my target buck came in 20 mins after I left. Let's hope the cold front gets him moving a little earlier.

part A - I didn't train for Idaho elk and I wish like hell I had. We were lucky there were logging roads with quad access all over or we would have been up $hit Creek. 10k+ feet up is NO JOKE. I used to ski almost every year in Colorado at 6-9k feet and while I can get a little winded at those heights you're usually not moving around at the upper end of that too much. Running around mountain tops at 7-10k is a helluva lot harder. I can jog at 5k feet with only a couple days needed to acclimate. Nearly twice that high? not sure how any of us flatlanders really prep for that.

part B - doubt you'll notice much difference.

Bow restrung, now to sling some arrows before first set on Friday. Nice cold front coming friday morning, so hoping to see some good movement. Havent seen any large bucks, some good 8's, but no true monster on camera yet. Good luck to those in stand already!

Youth gun hunt this weekend in WI. May take the opportunity to break out the orange and take out some yotes!

my "like" is at the yote part....I hate these damn early season youth gun hunts. You wanna learn to hunt, go out and freeze your nipples off like I had to and stop screwing up my bow seasons.
