Was doing some turkey scouting on some new farms last few days and was shocked I didn't find any sheds. My dad found one 2.5 year old 4 point size and I found these 2 dead heads.
I put in another 4 hours, but didn't find anything. Turkey season might keep me out of the woods for a bit. I did come across this...seems overkill!
that must be one of our lovely government programs!!! do you get paid to try to figure out why they mate in a certain position as well? LOL suck it up while you can brother!! when you can't find any beetles or can't figure out the mating thing just find an old indian somewhere and he will help you out. haha
It's actually a serious problem. Unless you're OK with losing maple trees along with the ashes that are already doomed. Look up asian longhorned beetle...they are already in OH, NY and MA.
It's a serious problem. We have a local state park and lake that just cut down and removed TONS of ash trees due to a beetle issue. They acted fast so they could hopefully stop their spread. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Almost stepped on this guy today she's/mushroom hunting scared the crap out of me since I rarely see snakes around where I hunt. What kind of snake is it? He slithered into a creek with a little persuasion from me and a LONG stick lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Same here on our farm in Ohio. The ash trees get hammered, that's also where we find all the morrells in the spring too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Looks like a northern water snake. Harmless, but they can have a nasty attitude if you pick them up. Nice find!
Looks like a dead snake to me if I would of seen that thing! Woooh. I would of had to take a day break out of the woods after seeing that thing haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That is what I came up with. Almost shot him but for some reason I couldn't do it. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
the game lands I'm currently hunting is all marked for ash and black birch. 10,000 acres are going to get hacked. don't believe the beetle thing. I'm not saying it isn't an issue. but when you see ash prices at the mill exceeding record prices everyone is cutting it for sure. just like the beech blight, everyone went out and cut it all down only to find it thriving in most parts still. too much education behind it in my opinion.
It looks like I might have a new property lined up. I go for a "final interview" with the landowner tomorrow. It's only 13 acres, but the layout of the property is pretty cool. I'm hoping for some shed hunting and trail cam access, but will definitely settle for hunting rights.
