Yesterday afternoon I went up to my woods to pull my 4 trail camera's and check for sheds. Holy **** was all I could say with the snow depth!!! I won't be going back In there till the snow starts melting (3 to 4 feet of this junk). The deer numbers also have been cut In half since a week or 2 ago. Less trails and the big trails that were there are half the size now. I'm sure most of these deer all headed over to the neighbors and across the road to another bigger food plot. I did get one very Interesting trail cam pic though, I'll post It In the bowhunting section. Hours shed hunting- 15 Sheds- ZIP!!
I found a 4x4 set today. We saw 10 bucks still carrying with 3 of them being pretty good bucks. Tyler found a decent 5 pt shed. Tim
Lmao!! Sure I am!! 3 to 4 feet deep Is the low spots. 4 to 5 feet Is about the average after the wind drifted everything so bad. Might have to fire up a snowmobile to go shed hunting. :D
Most of the snow around here should be gone by this weekend, so I'll be able to pick things up back then. All that's out there is mud, slop and slush, which, if you ask me, isn't pleasant to walk in!
The snow is finally starting to melt off a bit here, we are down to around 8 inches or so... but we are supposed to get some more Thursday. Hopefully the warm weather kicks in this weekend and I will be able to head out Sunday.
No it isn't fun slushing in the mud but it needs to be done !! Get out there !! Seriously we end up running in a lot of muck in the spring checking ag fields. It is no fun but well worth it. There isn't any warm up here yet but the deer are packing areas down for some good shed hunting. Chalk me up for another 6. Tyler had a good run with 3 on Friday afternoon, 9 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday. We are at 41 sheds for a total between us. Still quite a few bucks carrying yet. Tim
Dang Tim... what do you guys do with them all? I'd like to have 25 or 30 eventually to lay around the man cave as decoration... but I'm thinking it's going to take me YEARS to accomplish that; you guys do it in a few weeks! :D
I am not sure what we are going to do with them all. We have our big ones and favorite ones in the house... much to the dismay of the wife. The wife thinks we are insane for keeping them all. We have a lot of them stored in 2 garages of mine. Tyler made me promise I would not sell any. I thought we should sell all the small ones and use the money for hunting stuff. I could easily buy us both new bows, outfit myself and pay for a hunting trip out to Troy's. Selling them didn't go over with Tyler at all !!!!! LOL He says when he gets on his own... he is taking all them except my big and favorite ones. He loves shed hunting more then hunting. I swear he remembers where each shed was found over the years. When we find a shed to a buck... he knows if we have the sheds from him from the year before... 2 years before... 3 years before. Once he found a real old shed. Took one look and asked me if I remember finding the other side to it. I told him no. He said that I had indeed found it. When we got home... he dug in our collection of around 250 sheds at the time and came up with the other side. I had found it 4 years earlier when he was 10 years old. It was a definite match. It is unreal how he can remember all that just by taking a quick look at a old shed. Tim
Finally, I got out shed hunting for the first time in 2010. Had a nice day. Found 7 whitetail sheds. Got some great hiking in. Tooks some pix to share. Missed taking a pic with my camera of 1 chewed up 4x as it layed...but its in my hand in the fist full of sheds pix, and I did take a photo of it as it layed with my phone if that phone pix is needed for the contest let me know Tim.
