picked up some decoys yesterday, sprayed down my clothes, got all my stuff laid out. can't wait for Sat. We'll see how it goes. Good luck to everyone else.
Saw my bird I'm after Wednesday and this afternoon, I was on the top of the hill Wednesday and he was down 100 yards following some hens, I set up in that area today, dirt bag was at the top where I was the other day. so I got yesterday afternoon and early this morning. I learned the hard way not to use that damn gobble call when you got one head your direction after yelpin. I heard one coming in this morning but followed up a yelp with a gobble and then nothing except for a shotgun going off about 15 min after I stopped hearing that bird coming my way. I've got 2 more days to hit it, Mon & Tues. so we'll see how it goes.
Well I bought another Iowa tag. Figured I am going up to check cams and freshen up mineral sites, might as well get a few more hunts in. Figure I'll hunt tomorrow morning, then do some mushroom hunting and take care of the cams and monster raxx sites then maybe sit until fly up if I don't get one in the morning. I'll hunt again Wednesday if needed.
I don't know if I'll get out anymore this season. I'm posting my bird to the official scorecard. I hate to give up but other things in life are happening. Oh well. I did get one so I'm 100% better than I was last season. Happy hunting fellas, hope you guys can bag that late season bird. And apparently I have been hunting all wrong this year, went out with the wife to take some pictures, and had 2 different hens come withing 15 yards of us not paying any attention to us. So I'm going to start wearing white shirts and jeans to hunt in.
well a bunch of gobbling all around me, nothing seen. This afternoon I was headed back to my blind and there was a hen bedded down right where I walk along the woods edge. So I was lookin for a tom, but not one hanging with her. So I walk around, move my blind up to a soybean field, and the hen decided to join my decoys for a while. Then I spent an hour trying to convince a tom that my decoy were better than his ladies, but to no avail. One last day tomorrow, we'll see how it goes.
Sorry guys my season came to a close this morning my last day. I did shoot a tom but with the 12ga. He wouldn't come over the fence to my decoys in the field and was started to walk away. Since it was my last day and haven't seen a tom in 3 days I figured I shoot while the shooting was good. Shot him at 0545 thru the hog-wire fence. Stats: 10 1/2" beard, 3/4" spurs, bout 17-18 pounds, no behemoth but a nice bird all the same. sorry couldn't contribute to the team this yr. but now the pressure is off for a bird down and meat in the freezer. Good luck to anyone still hunting. I hope we do well in the stats board. I'd attach pics but cant' figure out how to get them attached since it shows them attached but wont let me click "done". Any ideas forward them to me.
Congrats on the bird Hank. I didn't hear or see anything this morning. The farmer has been spraying, putting in anhydrous, and planting corn, so I imagine they may have them a little pressured. Went hunting for morels when I was done, found about 75 or so total. Would have found more but had some trespassers on cam picking them. Some jackasses as last year. They better hope I don't find out who they are.
