3 weeks left of the season for me in Kentucky!! Getting my son out this weekend (hopefully) to get some meat in the freezer, then hitting it hard from there.

Been a rough couples weeks in my household as my wife’s grandfather passed away on Christmas and she had to go to Georgia. I stayed at home with the kids. On top of that I got a new job managing a team at work and they are a lot to handle so just haven’t had time to do much of anything

Sorry to hear about your wife's grandfather passing away on Christmas. That has to be hard, especially at Christmas.

If you still have 3 weeks left in your season, I would say there's still plenty of time.

Congratulations Aaron! Way to push through to the end and put some meet in the freezer. I still have a doe tag left and my son said they need some more venison. He said the kids just love it. Hello!

Winds were not supposed to be ideal but I noticed they were not out of the anticipated direction and were pretty calm so decided to roll the dice. Deer were moving early. Saw a bunch on the neighbors property and then had six feed in to the food plot. They were skittish but eventually settled down. Weighted about 20 minutes to see if a buck would come but to no avail. The plot was starting to clear and only had two mature doe remaining and they were acting like they weren’t going to hang around much longer. Got a 35 yard quartering away shot and center punched her in the heart. She ran about 60 yards and piled up. Blood trail was ridiculous. First deer ever with a crossbow. They are as accurate and deadly as advertised. I won’t use it often but wanted to try it out and late season in a covered blind was the perfect opportunity. Tough to draw my regular bow back in these blinds. I have a little over a week left. Will keep an eye on cams for a mature buck but not super hopeful. They just haven’t been daylighting at all since gun season ended.

That's awesome Aaron! Great shot on a mature doe. Don't give up on the mature bucks yet. We are starting to get daylight pics on 3.5 and 4.5 year old bucks in daylight again. Gun season was over on the 19th, so there settling back into their routine.

    Happy New Year!

Sorry for the picture of a picture, but the big boy survived gun season. We have a late muzzy weekend coming up and then he should be home free.

Sweet, glad to hear. My Dad and brother-in-law are headed back on Friday for the muzzle loader season. We have several 3.5 and 4.5 year-olds that have made it thru the Ohio gun seasons. Only one left. I'm headed out tomorrow morning to setup a protein feeder for the winter. It'll be interesting to see how they like it. I'm using a deer grain mix instead of pellets.

I tried sweet feed this year and the deer absolutely loved it. Not sure what it does for them nutritionally, but it was cheaper than corn.

Sweet feed can be anywhere from 12% -16% protein. I used it in the winter when I couldn't get anything else and the deer definitely ate it.
