I hope your right Adam. After this rain storm rolls thru it looks like pretty good weather for hunting.
Last night of work for a week. Plan on hitting it hard over the next week. Don't work again until next Friday and plan on hunting most days starting Saturday (possibly Friday night). I'm due to put some major points on the board for the team!
Wow, that's awesome to be able to take off a full week, especially the first week of November. Good luck Aaron.
I got my gear all set in my deep spot yesterday. I took my time and climbed a few trees to clear some more shooting lanes that drove me insane last year. I can't wait to hunt it! I'll probably be going there Monday with a perfect westwind, and sunny forecast. This saddle has 6 intersecting trails with a community scrape in the middle. Bucks will run the eastern ridge to catch the rising thermals once the sun hits the valley, and the west wind will carry the smell of the swamp so they can cover as much ground as possible while cruising. This is an all day spot during the rut. Even after the thermals are done rising, the bucks will still cruise the western side of the ridge scent checking the swamp. it is a 2 1/2 mile walk to get there, so I'm not shooting any does, spikes, forks, or dinks. Big bucks only unless it is the last day of the season! It will be a 8-10 hour process to get the deer back to my vehicle.
That's Awesome! hopefully the drag out ain't 10 hours long for you! That long of a drag out would definitely deter a lot of people.
This spot is a half-mile from the cart road, with some seriously nasty terrain, big leg snapping rocks, and swamp at the bottom of the ridge on the eastern side. I stashed my roll-up deer sled so I can get him close to the cart road. The cart road is nasty in it's own way. it is washed out with big rocks, and some big time hills. I'm hoping the buck runs towards the cart road and doesn't fall down the ridge. I'm not to sure if I can physically make 2, 5 mile round trips to go get my deer cart from my jeep. I'll make it happen somehow!!
Two buck and 5 doe/fawns so far this afternoon. Passed a young 11 point with tons of potential. Really excited to see what he becomes if he makes it. Tough to tell from the blurry pics, but he was a main frame 10 with a sticker on the inside of his right beam.
Great sit tonight. Rut almost ready to explode. Saw 4 bucks, 8 doe/fawn. Had a good 9 offer a marginal shot at 40 yards but elected no to take it as there was a bigger buck at 90 yards with a doe in between. The bigger buck snort wheezed at the 9 and started coming. Thought I was going to see an epic fight but the doe scurried off and the bigger buck elected to follow her to the west rather than fight the 9. The 9 eventually worked to my west and was within 25 yards but in heavy cattails/little aspen trees and I couldn’t get a shot. Taking tomorrow off for some family time/trick or treating but back at it morning and evenings, Mon-Thurs. I really hope I can get it done in those 4 days. It seems imminent, but always easier said than done to get a shot on a mature buck!
The Millionaire property is getting good now that I used my buck tag. Guess I have some targets for next year...
Good luck out there today guys. November is finally here. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
