Starting to wonder if I need to hit a different wma. I've given this particular wma all of last season. And now the first few weeks of this season. I only have ever seen 4 deer on here in total. Including the buck for last week. Probably going to make a complete move next weekend to another wma. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
If the rain slows tomorrow, I'll have a hard time convincing myself not to hunt. Saving my spots for the rut is hard work!
Sounds like where I hunt. How large is the tract of land you're hunting? I'm sure you've done your homework, but what does the topo map look like? Blur out any identifying labeling and post it up.
It's about 10,000 acres. And honestly it's pretty flat with maybe only a change of 50 feet in elevation. Still trying to get a hold of a topo of it. The other issue is the property is so dense that it can conceal any animal at any given point of time. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
Yep swampland galore on this wma. There is pretty much only pines on there as well. I attached a picture of what I had to track last year's doe through. It gets so thick in there that it's impassable for a human. Though I did find some new growth oaks near where I missed the buck. But they are maybe 2-4 years old and only a foot or two tall. Not producing acorns yet though. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
Ugh... I know Dan Infalt has a swamp bedding and marsh bedding DVD that might be helpful. His hill country DVD helped me get onto deer/bucks where I hunt. Not sure if you're familiar with the hunting beast forum. Those guys are on a different level. I only read when I'm on those forums because I have nothing else to offer, lol.
I'm gonna have to look for that DVD. I really like everything else about this wma but it's just really starting to try my patience. Plus the entrance is only 10 minutes from my place. I also hate the idea of leaving deer to find deer. Never heard of that forum either I'm gonna have to check it out. Sent from my SM-G781V using Tapatalk
I hear you brother! I bet there are giants in there bedded up in those swamps! https://shop.thehuntingbeast.com/dvd-s/18-hunting-bedded-bucks-swamp-bedding.html He also has a Youtube channel, but only scratches the surface of his knowledge.
Warning....this link is a rabbit hole that will consume you for hours!!!!! http://www.thehuntingbeast.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=24471
I forgot we had soccer at 2 (see pic below). After that, I'll just do family time for some brownie points. Next weekend is a camping/fishing/kayaking trip in Southern Illinois and then I will get serious about deer.
That's how my kid looked after the first time he talked back to me..... lol but seriously, hope she is okay!!
Well, she took a ball to the face in warmups and then started gushing in the 2nd quarter. Not really sure what happened. She got cleaned up and finished with her best game of the year.
