Man that buck is going to have huge circumference measurements. That's 170" plus buck for sure. Glad your loop snapped before season than if you would have been drawn back on that hawg.

Great story Joe. Glad you got to see some deer even if it wasn't in the tree you wanted to climb. Have you ever tried those reflective thumb tacks. You can place them on the bottom of the trees so you don't have to raise a flashlight so high.

Yeah, I've used my own homemade ones in the past. Just use thumbtacks and tear off small pieces of white DOT reflective tape so the round shape doesn't stick out during daylight. I'll have to do up a few of those for next time so it is not an issue. Good call!

With the colder weather coming in, it's time to break out my bee smoker to start smoking my clothes again. I smelled the usual chimneys from nearby houses while I was hunting yesterday. Does anyone else smoke their clothes?

Lol! but in all seriousness how do you smoke clothes? I've heard of it before but never had met anyone that has done it.

I use a bee smoker. I use hardwood hickory chips. I lay all my hunting clothes/gear out in my jeep, and start a small fire in the smoker. Once there are some coals in the smoker, I add the woodchips. They extinguish the flame, but the coals smolder the woodchips creating the thick smoke. I put it in the jeep and close the door for a few minutes till it is full of thick smoke.

The science from it, is that the smoke from the hardwood kills bacteria from sweat and natural bacteria humans emit. I'm not claiming it eliminates my scent, but it does reduce it, and it is a smell deer are familiar with. I've heard fire jumpers claim that they go days on end without a shower fighting wildfires, and they don't smell like BO, from the smoke. Native Americans used it as a cover scent for hunting as well, and they didn't have soap.

It gives me a bit of confidence, especially if I have to cut across a deer trail to get to a spot.

That makes a whole lot of sense! I'd of never thought that would help. But that also explains why everyone is near a fire in some TV show's. I might have to try that once it gets cooler.

It's time to nail down my rutcation dates. November 4-11 is calling my name, but I'm scared to miss the first 3 days of the month.

What are you guys doing for the rut?

Well I've got the first week of bear season off Oct. 18th through 22nd. So I won't get the chance to hunt the rut all that much. Plus firearm opens up on the 21st. Hopefully everyone still thinks there is no deer on the wma I hunt.

I've heard about this but I have never tried. I might try it this year. I got busted twice this weekend. I never saw the deer but they snorted within 100 yards. Very frustrating.

I think the 11/4 - 11/11 should be awesome. My Kings calendar and my Moon Guide it to be the best time. The Full Moon in on 11/18, so the beginning of November should have pretty dark nights.

Hey fellas, just checkin in. Been trying to get a bear killed. Gonna focus on that through this weekend, although MI deer season opens Friday so there is a chance to kill a deer while chasing bear this weekend.

I'll be in KS the following weekend for a quick hunt, then 2 weeks of MI deer hunting before another KY and KS hunt.....

    Good luck to everyone. .

Haven’t been able to hunt much this year (seems to be a recurring problem) but hoping to get out for a morning sit this Saturday! After this weekend I have yet another trip the the Renaissance festival the week after that.. then a weekend camping trip… I may not get in the woods again till last week of October just as things start heating up here in Kentucky. I’m here though and will hopefully help the team

It'll happen! Don't worry about if you don't post points yet. We are still in the beginning of the competition, there is still a lot in store for the rest of the season!
