I need to get back out. I've spent the last 24 hours or so cooking, yes cooking lol.

Yesterday, I mixed up some ven sausage. 1 part pork 3 parts venison, curing salt, pepper, sage. Mixed and left it to chill.

Then I thawed, trimmed and prepped some blackstraps for me and my buddy, threw them in a good old cast iron skillet with some butter, olive oil salt and pepper. Bacon mashed potatoes on the side. They were excellent.

After that I cut up a roast for jerky. Made the marinade, bagged the whole deal and let it chill till 8am. Skewered the strips, and they're in the oven until 2p or so.

Then FINALLY, got the sausage mix back out, shaped and stacked patties, packed them in the freezer. Done.

Tomorrow, back in the woods

Friday morning: Had a pack of deer consisting of a nice 8pt, 4 does and two yearling ran by my stand but couldn't get them to stop.

Saturday morning: Had a yearling come by at first light, then a spike at about 10am and a nice doe at 10:30, but she was out of range.

Saturday night: Had another nice 8pt cruise by at last light, to dark to see him through the peep so I didn't take the shot.

Came home empty handed but I was just glad to see some deer! I'll be back at the lease in November for rut!

I'm was not able to hunt this weekend but I'm taking my little brother out in a couple of hours. I'm just hoping to see deer. For a long time he didn't want to hunting and now is finally showing some interest. BTW he is a great shot. Set up a bow for him and he is smoking out to 25 yards.

Got busted this morning by a doe just before shooting light. Shouldn't have moved in the stand but I did and she saw me.

Only saw one other yearling on the way out. Didn't hunt this evening.

How about the rest of you guys? Who has yet to get out??

Found my rattling anters in one of my stands I hadn't hunted since last year :-) Got up in my stand and looked over and there they were, hanging on a branch... Didn't see anything tonight but it was a beautiful night to be in the stand. Still to many crops in and the 3" of rain we got this last weekend still has the ground pretty wet - hopefully with a couple of decent days of weather the farmers can start back on the harvest....

Hey guys wasn't able to hunt this week, kinda feeling under the weather! Hopefully when I get out next week I'll see some bucks cruising. I Plan on setting up a scrape when I get out there next time so maybe a big boy will come check it out and I can add some more points to the board.

Hi everyone haven't checked in for a while. Been busy with work and kids activities. Have been out a few times but I'm looking forward to the next three weeks hitting it hard. Next weekend I'll start to hunt mornings but for now just evenings hunts. The last week of October through the first two weeks of nov I plan on getting in some all day hunts.

Looks like we'll all be getting some time out there soon!

Time for a few hours sleep for me then off to public land in the morning. Will probably sit till 11 or so and may re hang a camera. Will probably hunt the same area for the evening.
