Green dots are permanent stand sites, all but northern most on NW corner have been there at least one decade and some for 2 to 3
i would sit on the edge of the pond somewhere that is nasty where the deer can drink and people don't walk. especially in the early season.
Might be worth taking a lock on up there early season and set it in a tree near the box blind. That way it's set for the rut. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
I need to find somewhere that is south of that southern most dot. No one hunts there, but leaves get deep after they start falling and you have to get in pretty early. Remember my uncle telling me about the area and how he has killed some big bucks in his early days, but leaves can be knee deep after they drop and you have to get in early because of it.
Those untouched spots can be good. Just have to find a way in or if hunting morning, just have to get in early to beat any deer back into the area. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
The best place for that would be the west side of it, it's pretty thick but fairly steep leading to the pond. Be a lot of work getting shooting lanes opened up, but there is a big oak that you can still see an old wooden platform stand in, might be worth a gander if I can get down to it. The south end is somewhat open and probably the best option for hunting the pond, uncle used to have a 2 man ladder stand back in there but it got hunted a lot by others so never went there. The east side is fairly flat, but during my time hunting out there a lot of bad shots end up with other hunters tracking through there looking for animals that are not going to die so I have avoided it. I've got 3 trail cams and 36 AA lithiums I am taking with me to put on that unknown territory on the south end. If I ever shoot a booner, I am confident that is where it will happen. Just a matter of making sure I am the only one that hunts it
Never before seen footage, my clean 10 falling and the last deer my uncle was alive for when I killed. Already shot in the video, captured from the time he realized something was wrong until his demise.
i live in hill country and some of the biggest bucks are killed on steep slopes. get in there. steep slopes provide good cover while traveling. next to water and on the down wind side of the pond. your stars are aligning my friend.
@Shane0709 can you check in please? It's all good if not hunting yet, just want to make sure all is good with you.
I had this buck show up on Trail cam on 9/10. I bet he is only 10 - 11 inches wide. Looks like a nice deer until you see how wide it is.
Judging his body, I think he's a 3.5 year old. The genes are getting passed down on this buck. My brother-in-law shot one on this property 2 years ago. I think it was around 140" but was only 12" wide. It had huge mass th0ugh.
That's the crazy thing about a narrow racked buck, they don't look as big as they really are. The first buck I ever shot with a shot gun was a 3 year old that only had a 11" spread. With out that wide frame, they can look small. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
Well I finally got permission to hunt the swamp property on the neighbors land. I snuck back in a few days ago and set up a scout cam. Went in this afternoon to get the card and bring it back to my computer. All excited to see whats in there. Card read locked !!. I must have clicked the lock button on the card putting it in the cam. Going to go back and re set it. got warm out and bugs and humidity is back but this is what I live for.
