I saw a fox and two does. The does came in right at dark so I sat waiting for them to leave but they wouldn't. So lowered my bow and they still sat not 20 yards from me. So I turned on my headlamp and still they stayed. I climbed down and when my foot hit the ground they ran maybe 20 yards and watched me walk off. I couldn't believe it. 10 min more of daylight and one might have been in my truck.
The temps were down today. Just finished a shooting session with gloves, jacket and balaclava. It's finally cold enough not to break out in a sweat wearing it. Did practice getting into place and standing up for the shot. The idea is to watch them bed down and sneak to where they are, get set and wait for them to get up.
I will be hunting Friday morning and maybe Friday evening in front of a big cold front coming through. I will be sitting in the swamp Saturday morning scouting for duck season and then riding around checking different swamps. May get back out Saturday evening.
Have a 5k rugged maniac Saturday morning @ 10am. Doubt I got out in the evening. Getting of work @10:30pm Friday night and driving 3hrs home then getting up early sucks. Thank god for Sunday hunting. I just got word today that I will be getting a job I applied for back home where I live. Should be starting it within the next 2 weeks. Just waiting on my background check to come back. This hunting season has been so depressing. I lost all my deer hunting properties except for 1 due to people buying hunting rights.. I've lost 6 places. The only 1 I was able to hold on to is a farm the guy actually owns and deer hunting isn't that great on(which is why no one wants to pay for it). Luckily enough I was able to get deer hunting permission on a farm we waterfowl hunt. But even then the area I got isn't that great since a few others already deer hunt it and good areas are spoken for. Which I'm completely ok with, I wouldn't want new people taking over my hunting area. *sigh*... Ohwell...
Nothing seen in stand this morning prolly cuz it's 70 and wind forecast was wrong and ended up being 18 mph winds Bowhunt Madness
Went scouting afterwards and found a big scrape line on old logging road, it's right next to bedding area and water source prolly put other stand near there Bowhunt Madness
Thanks man. After the last month and a half at work, that first day on the mountain can be deer-free and still be awesome!
Marshall is out shopping for food right now. I'm sitting at home playing with my pack situation. I've got a detachable day pack on my internal frame that I'll use for the stalk. It fits my hydration bladder, radio, tags and license, field spray, and optics (little binos and the range finder). My only problem is it is red. It's semi solved by wearing my jacket over it, but I'm still trying to figure out how I'll access my optics without wearing them also. The big bag will sit at the the campsite and carry food, clothes, spare water jug, and other misc. camp stuff. I just have to figure out where my game cleaning gear will go. On another note, my broadheads are all tuned up. The night before I head out, I'll switch out the practice blades for the killing blades. Marshall will be down this afternoon with his bow to broadhead tune, make finally packing arrangements and put together our hunting plan on a map. Once we get the plan in place, I'll use the ACME mapper to mark them up and then will print the topographic maps of the area and the satellite imagery for the areas. 13 more days until we're both on the mountains. Can't wait.
Here is where we are looking for the first night. This is about 8 miles in from the campgrounds that we've started our scouting trips at.
Looks good wreckless. I will be hunting in the morning in the beginning of a big cold front coming in.
