Here are a few things I learned yesterday after scouting: 1. The deer are there. A lot of the deer dropping on trails I walked was 12 - 24 hours old. 2. The weather is pushing them lower and earlier than I expected. 3. If I want to see deer, I need to be on the mountain earlier than 9 am. Or, take time to look en route. 4. Fully charge the phone/GPS tracker prior to leaving. I thought about dropping down and going to the next draw, until I looked at my charge (20%). Good thing I went back, my phone died about 20 minutes away from the truck. Best guess is it took me about 45 minutes to an hour to get back to main ATV trail on the outside of the ranch. So, we'll need to be up and at the gate roughly 45 minutes prior to first light.
Looks good wreckless. I hunted Thursday evening and saw 2 does and 2 fawns and hunted Saturday evening and saw a doe. I should have no problem getting us 50 points when I decide to shoot a doe for the freezer.
Only a couple more days until I can get out there. It will be interesting because I slept wrong and now my back is a little jacked up, its nothing serious just a little annoying. I will need to go and double check all my gear on last time tomorrow night so I don't have to worry about in the morning. Right now the wind looks good for the spot I want to hunt opening morning but its going to be a little warm. Im really looking forward to saturday morning with a high of 58. I don't think I'll be able to sleep tuesday night lol
It's a great spot in the early season... Wasn't as hot as I wanted it to be. Only saw that 1 deer all night. Even had a strip of green soybeans in between corn and not a single deer in it.
Thanks! I'm super excited. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep tonight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good luck! I got a total of 2 hours of sleep the night before my first hunt this year so I know the feeling.
Bow season opened here last weekend but I still haven't been out. It's still been in the 90s here, which is way too hot for me to hunt. I likely won't start until the temps drop quite a bit. There's just something about shooting a deer that's still covered in ticks that gives me the willies. Not many bucks so far. I've seen 1 that might be a good late season shooter if nothing else comes around but he's still about a year too young so I'd like to let him walk if possible. The good news is that I'm still seeing a lot of does on camera. The lack of bucks is fairly normal for my spot this time of year. As long as the does are there, though, there's no need in worrying if the bucks will come around. I may go sit in the blind some this weekend but it's not likely that I fling an arrow at anything unless Mr. Big Daddy or Mr. Freak Nasty walks in.
Well I saw a few does out about 60 yards opening day and then it got slow. It was a still great to be back out there. I wanted to try and get out there today but we are getting hit hard with rain right now and the winds are high and not really good for the spots I want to hunt. So I will be holding off for a few days until I can get back out. Good luck to you guys if you are getting out there though. Let's get some points on the board. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Got in a short hunt this morning and saw 2 does. May go this afternoon but it just depends on the weather as the wind is suppose to pick and rain hard.
Sounds like you guys are having a good time! I can't wait to get out! Sent from my iPhone 4s using Tapatalk
