There are a bunch of branches that I cut out that can be strapped to the tree behind me. Should provide some concealment. Otherwise it might have to be an evening sitting stand only.
All the hard work is done. Perhaps some fine tuning while in the stand, but other than that I'm drooling to get out.
Consider having the stand offset ... It limits mobility but would help Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
Looking over your shoulder sucks but it will allow you to move tons more. I try not to sit much anyways during a good sit. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
You would be surprised how fast you grab for your phone once your ass hits a seat. Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
I’m not a big camera guy but my buddy uses them on the farm I can hunt. These are some decent ones he’s gotten pics of. On public I honestly usually go off of past experiences and it pays off a lot. If I see a decent buck the year before in an area the next year I’ll go in that area find the sign and set up accordingly. It’s worked well in the past for me. I love the “run and gun” style of hunting and since I have started it I have upped my harvest numbers tremendously. So I’m just over here winging it basically lol Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Offset meaning instead of sitting at directly 6 o'clock, move to the 4 o'clock or 8 0'clock position? Maybe. I've done that in the past, but my neck can't handle looking to the left or right. Green is current 6 o'clock position.
I’ll be hunting primarily Fairfield county, couple times on public piece in Perry county if it’s not overran like last couple years and the. Family farm in pike county. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Also I’m not seeing the roles for a captain in the rules thread. I just went and looked. I wouldn’t care to do it because I am a pretty active member and really enjoy this contest. I remember I wasn’t even smart enough to figure out how to bold peoples name last year lol I think I’m more limited on my phone than a computer or something. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it hahahah Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Is Pike County still living up to all of its hype these days? They used to make it sound like a P&Y was hiding behind every tree.
Well, I know it beyong my computer skills. Fix, do you normally get a shot at a decent buck each year in NY?
Have to say I have been the most behind this year vs past due to kids practices and games, coaching, and work. Only have 1 camera out right now and that’s only because I switched it with the one I left post season scouting. All cameras have new battery’s and will prolly start hanging next couple weeks. I don’t prep stand locations anymore, I primarily run and gun l, too many stands stolen and conditions change. As for shooters there’s prolly 5-6 I know of if they are still alive from last year. Here some of last years. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I just wanted you to read the rules again. LOL. Strange, I could've sworn captain roles were defined in there. Anyway, basically just manage the team, make a call for an alternate, report the team all here and keep our scores straight (double check math and such) as we post them. Not a lot, really. We all need to help each other and keep each other honest on scores anyway.
I've hung stands like I think you're getting at. Basically more behind the tree, so you have something to hide behind for the most part. Yeah you have to stand up most of the time (facing the tree), but at least you don't get busted with just minimal movement. I stand the majority of the time too.
See look how great of a captain you would be! Hahaha yeah in years past I would always score mine and ask my team their thoughts before putting it on the scorecard. We should definitely do that. I’m pretty decent at scoring but hate when the number comes out higher than I actually thought lol. The mass measurements always surprise me I think. Anyway I don’t mind doing it since we have a few veterans in here to micro manage it hahaha but if anyone else would volunteer even better ha. Also I’m in for any game of thrones team name! Currently sitting on hold with dnr trying to figure out where my tags are.... after that I should be ready to go besides a few shooting sessions to help stay dialed in.
Half of Vinton County is public land lol if you ever get the chance to check it out you should. I honestly feel like I have most of it to myself during October. November it starts to fill up a little ha. More so in the past couple years. I usually hold my standards to something 130ish. But see bigger ones that “get away” every year. I honestly only have the private farm for doe lol only one doe and one buck a year on public just isn’t enough meat for the year for my family. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
I try to stand here and there to get some circulation moving. I can't stand for hours though. I think some brush camouflage will go a long way. I agree though, it does seem a bit exposed and once the leave drop it'll be rough.
