I’ve watched this buck for the last 4 years and finally figured out how to pattern and hunt him. He always comes into my area around November 6 and then stays around until around the 15th to breed the large doe group in my patch of woods. He’s been very elusive and I knew the clock was ticking before he moved back to his home range. I put a stand right in the middle of the doe bedding area back in October and have tried to stay out as much as possible. I slipped in there before light this morning. As soon as I pulled my bow up I had deer running under the stand and could hear grunting. I had does bedded close to me all morning and around 9:00 I heard a grunt behind me. He came charging in to sniff the spot the does were bedded. He was at 10 yards in some brush but I managed to find a window and got a pass through shot. He ran 30 and went down. It’s awesome when opportunity and persistence pays off.
We aren't that far out of this. Couple more does and a couple more decent bucks...honestly the does are a huge help. I've got calls in for some good permission spots and have some options, but I won't be in the woods till probably Wednesday.
^^^^^ completely we need everyone to down a flattop. I only have a week left and have shifted to looking at cull bucks for y'all. Let's push fellas Sent from my Pixel 6 using Tapatalk
Our gun season ends tomorrow. Then I can be a bit more aggressive. I've got only 32 acres and I'm super careful to not bump deer of it.
I was in the stand basically daylight to dark for the last 5 days…never did see a decent buck. Sorry fellas ha. Definitely an off year for me..happens to everyone I suppose. This was the best buck I saw and he was broke off…I’ll give it a go Tuesday after work more than likely..but man I’m pretty burnt lol Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
It has been a tough season for me and I knew it would be. I needed to get real lucky in MO in the time I had there and it didn't happen. I have some options this week though. I'm hoping to finally get permission on my extended family's farm that nobody hunts. I know the place pretty well, but there was never a good deer population there until the past 10 years or so. I'll try to get a buck down fellas, even if it isn't a high scoring buck. This contest is the only reason I even half way worry about that anyway. As long as it is mature, it is fair game. That could be a 100 incher here.
