Im just about done butchering that doe, will be done this morning, then back to hunting for me. I try not to have multiple deer in the cooler, makes for too much work all at once. 2 deer isnt bad, but found it just as easy to take care of them one at a time.

2 years ago i got a double on does and shot a buck all in the same week. That was brutal to process 3 deer all at the same time, long day.

Anyone else on the team do all there own processing?

Someone should build a garage (bigger than his house) and put a walk-in-cooler in that monster, let deer hang and age a few weeks, have a butcher day/ party where all your friends could come get it done in a day.....

I still haven't been out hunting yet. Scouted and hung a cam in that big 3K acres piece, but its huge and the part that was cut is old enough that it'll be a bear to hunt. It's so thick. Found another spot I like better, and should have way better access.

I was planning to get out yesterday afternoon but that didn't happen. Got a call late Saturday night from the local C.O. A guy shot a bear that was breaking into his pheasant coop, and I'm one of the only folks the C.O. knew that would take bear meat, so was late getting the bear out & gutted, then spent all day butchering and packing.

Stoked to have the meat though!

Well I've been out three times total so far. Last time out was Saturday during which someone was sounding off on their coyote call at like 530. Had some guys pass through my back 5 acres to fish the river and they were loud as all van be. Then with about 15 minutes left with light someone started up the coyote call again.

I might go sit on some public Wednesday, only dilemma is that Wednesdays are typically my late nights for work but we'll see.

On another note, I received my DAS riser and limbs today and got that all set up. Super excited to be using that recurve. It has some zip to it and I can mess around with different set ups.

Nice, you shoot trad bow. Will you take it hunting? Or just using it for target shooting?

I shoot a Bear Montana longbow. I tried for a couple years hunting with it. I missed I think 6 or 7 deer before I finally connected with a small buck. Been shooting that bow for about 8 years now, and mostly just shot it for fun. For some reason while hunting, I always shot over the back of the deer. I missed some really nice bucks with it. Talked with a old timer that owned a bow shop, he only shoots trad. Said he always aims for the belly line when shooting from a tree. Which is why i always shoot high. Just a hard thing to over come. My instinct is to aim as normal.

We finally got some rain here in Illinois. I got my food plots planted before so hopefully they can get some growth. They were about two weeks later than normal so I added cereal rye just in case we get a frost before the brassicas and peas can do their thing. I will be in the woods in a week. I have a couple nice ones I have my eye on. I also got permission from a couple of the neighboring farms, as the farmers are asking me to shoot as many as I can.

I'll be using it for hunting. Going to commit to the switch for a little while and see what happens. I shoot split finger instinctive and seem to hit my mark, on a target at least, consistently out to about 23 yards. I've been wanting to make the switch for a couple years and spent most of my time with a different recurve last year and actually missed a solid 8 on two different occasions. We'll see what happens this fall.

That's awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing the buck you put down this year.

I made it out last weekend for my first sit. Didn’t see anything which was odd for that property. Will try to maybe get a sit in this weekend if I can. Started a new job so for me it will be mostly trying to get out on the weekends when I can. good luck guys when you make it out in the woods

Good luck to all who are getting out there!

Looks like I should be a go for a quick evening hunt. Treating it primarily as an observation sit in on of the new spots I'm hunting. I want to see what kind of view I can get of a clearcut that's a few yrs old. I'll be close to the parking area, but it should offer my best view. I highly doubt anyone is bowhunting this spot, so I should have it mostly to myself until rifle season. (same will most of my spots actually)

Good to see you guys getting out, good luck.

I got another sit in on one of my favorite public spots last night. Of course no deer. Off to the next spot. Definitely deer in the area, just not in that marsh, at this moment.
