Never tried self filming because I would have no clue what to do; I leave it to the BHOD guys. With technology the way it is today, would you even buy a digital video camera or could you mount a smartphone to a swiveling arm to catch the action?

Muddy makes a mount for phones. You can attach it to your bow or a tree arm. Im just going to use my sony handycam for now amd see if it is something ill continue doing. Id like to video my wifes first deer and my friends first bow kill!

I've got a decked out lil handycam and a tree arm I actually have a go pro as well that I hang as a secondary cam on me or my bow. I bought it for paintball but honestly it's found a much safer life in my hunting bag though it doesn't get a ton of use

I wish I had some trail cam pics to show you guys. Problem is I hunt public land and I don't trust half the people I run into back there. They intentionally follow you if you stalk or sit their stand literally five trees down from you. No respect for other hunters is driving me crazy. I did some scouting a few weeks back and I'm confident there are plenty of deer. Just have to be more on the look out for fellow hunters. :ninja:

Rich, you've got some nice looking deer my friend. Any idea the age of the buck in the 3rd pic?

No, that is the only pic we have of him and the neighboring properties pretty much use the brown is down hunting policy. I got the pics from one of my hunting buddies that has cameras out on the property. BTW, the second pic is the front buck in the first pic zoomed in to see him better.

As far as the public ground issue goes you just have to be willing to go deeper in the woods than all the other guys. The deer will be there but you better make sure you have a buddy to help get it out. A mile or more dragging a deer is a looonnnng way.

Thanks. I finally got one of the kids to give me a crash course in pic posting for dummies. Its rough being old and behind technology.

Here are a couple of the bucks on my hit list, in order they are named D- (5 1/2) last year he was named dagger, but this year he didnt grow it so thats where "D-" comes from he wont score much but I let him go last year in hopes he would grow more junk this year but he didnt, he did put in mass, but his tine length didnt improve, but he is a bully buck that runs most of the other deer off of where he is living , Crabby(4 1/2) he is primarily nocturnal and has a huge home range just this summer we have him and LT on camera 4 miles apart and LT(4 1/2) he is currently in tandem everywhere with crabby, but he will split off come mid september, if they have the same areas as last year they will be hard to hunt. Good deal. I haven't bought my tags yet. Not sure I'll get the turkey tag but I might.

Does anybody extensively work on their own gear? Build their own arrows?

I stopped @ the local G&F today to get my tag & was pleasantly surprised to find out that I could get 3 extra doe tags for the new area I hunt! That makes 5 tags total! I am stoked! Also picked up a phone mount for my bow & gonna try a little filming this year. Our opener is Friday but its suppose to be in the mid 90's all weekend so ill be @ the lake instead of in my stand.

Lake would be a good choice for temp. I don't like hunting when its hot.
