I hope so for your sake, did you try gaining access to neighboring land to continue chasing those bucks? Being limited to just 8 acres would be brutal for me.
Yeah I have tried. I had permission last year for a neighboring property but I could only hunt the stands that were already hung by another hunter and they were not in good spots on the property and I understood why the other hunter that has hunted there for years hasn't killed many deer off that property. This year the landowner gave 4 different hunters permission which is crazy for about 20 to 30 acres i think. It's going to be tough but I got another property I just got permission to hunt that I used to hunt growing up and its about 50 acres but have no trail cameras out and hopefully i can get a tree stand hung in a week or two out there.
Was out checking cams this past weekend. Was great to be in the woods. Nothing impressive on cam however, they were hung in locations that are really meant for rut. I'm not concerned at all about what deer are in the areas I hunt. Why? I know every year there are numerous large bucks that make it through...and I just need to play cat and mouse the last week of the season to get one of them! Or like a previous year...miss a monster I've been shooting well and feeling confident at the moment....same as the last miss...hahah
Misses happen, been there done that. It all just adds to you thick skin! 55 this morning, I’m ready for some tree time
September 14th for this guy to be in a tree! Seems warmer temps are on the way for opening day. Won't bother me though, last year I hunted in 85 degrees on opening day.
Oct 1 in Illinois. That’s on a Tuesday so I may go for that evening or I may just wait for the weekend 5th/6th. I’ll play by ear. The place I hunt by my house is like a doe hotel.....or whore house to be precise lol. About mid October I’ll get some cruisers. Then it gets spotty till second week of Nov. till thanksgiving. This guy was prime example last year. He was on our cams for couple days around mid October then he ghosted us.
Gonna hopefully check a few cameras this weekend. And set a stand or two as long as the spot is not covered in poison ivy. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
How’s everyone’s fawn count doing? I haven’t seen the pics myself but my buddy said we are thriving which is a relief. Last few years have been more pics of coyotes than deer. This year so far is the opposite. Hopefully they stay away or mange hit them hard
Absolutely! They are getting really thick by me. This spring I found 2 kill sights with 300 yards and on my way out down the road in the vehicle a 1/4 mile I had two cross in front of me. Pretty sure I was close to a den. I honestly can not wait until we get the chance to manage them.
That would be a PITA having to deal with them and bears. They’re neat animals but man they can be trouble
Haven’t checked any cameras to know. Have been hearing a lot of coyotes by the house though Sent from my iPad using Bowhunting.com Forums
This is a crazy year for deer on my farm. We timbered it out end of last year into this spring and the new growth and browse is unreal, I never seen so much sign. Good luck with Da Bears !
