Good luck this weekend guys! I too will be back at it on Saturday looking for a doe, but if a real buck walks in front of me this time I'm not against letting an arrow go on him either.

We will be hunting my FIL's farm in Scott county. Just northwest of the town of Winchester.

Well guys, we lost our lead. Team 19 went on a massive run this past weekend and is now close to 200" ahead of us. No need to worry though, I've got a good feeling you guys with tags left to fill can put us back on top:tu:

very slow 3 days for me on thursday through saturday. The deer are in lock down, happens every year for at least 4-5 days and then somebody flipps the switch and they are running around like crazy. I'll be back hunting the 11th-14th, so I'm hoping things will be alot better! Thursday was just plain windy 20-30mph winds all day, friday was windy, not as bad, but then saturday was perfect but hardly any movement. Spent sunday getting leaves finished up around the house and winterizing the camper. Took monday off to spend with the wife and kids, so I'll be back in full speed come thursay morning...

    Ok fellas here it goes.

I had last week off work which I split the time between family and hunting. The first couple days I saw some deer out of range mostly doe. Wednesday evening I climbed up a tree I never have. An hour before dark a smaller buck snuck in behind me but he wasn't what I was looking for. A few minutes later I saw an even smaller buck working his way through brush then he began playing chasing games with a doe. It appeared the doe was more into the game though as she had this buck running everywhere. While they were running around 2 more doe came in from the other way 15 yards from me. I decided to take one of these doe and made a good shot. She made a small circle and layed down 20 yards away as I sat there and watched her. Thats when another hunter decided to walk down the trail and jump my doe. The next morning I followed blood as far as I could but I was pretty sure I knew where she bedded and there is no way I could get in there. Its a strip 60 yards wide by about 300 yards long of solid thorns. I still searched 6 hours worth of where I was physically able to walk finding nothing.

Then comes Saturday morning. We received snow overnight and I was excited to hunt that morning. We continued to get small flurries throughout the morning. Just after sun up 3 doe made their way past my stand to the right. Not 2 minutes later a buck came out of the brush to my left and circled just out of range in front of me. If he would have kept his path, he would have walked right where the doe walked but for some reason the 3 doe came flying back by taking the buck with them. About 15 minutes later here comes another buck up the hill. He wasnt a monster but I would be happy with him. I stand up and get in position to shoot. He gets behind a tree at 20 yards and I draw back. Once he enters my shooting lane I make a noise to stop him. Thwack! The hit was a tad high but I felt sure I hit the top of the opposite lung. He went crashing through the woods out of sight. At this point I was about to flood the team with a BBD text but I wanted to be sure I had my hands on him. I snuck back to the truck to grab my field dressing equipment and had a cup of coffee and warmed up a bit. I made it back to the impact sight and started following blood. The trail took me to the neighboring property. I went back to the truck and drove to his house to asking permission to track my buck. Nope. He will not allow anyone on his land for no reason what so ever.

So last week was a terrible week for me with some learning experiences. I feel terrible that I have 2 deer laying out there that I cannot do anything about.

I did also find this tree almost cut in half.

I'm sorry I was not able to make the recovery but I did everything I could. I felt I should let everyone know how my week went. I'm still bummed about it but I'm not going to let it ruin my season. I have until the beginning of February to hunt.

Sorry to hear about your luck, Joe. That looks like good blood, you definitely made good hits it's just a shame neither of the deer could be recovered. You did all you could though and at the end of the day that's all you can ask of yourself! There is still plenty of season left.

That totally sucks Joe. Some landowners are just like that for whatever reason.

As for me, sorry that I have been a bit absent the last week or so everyone. With my main location doe only for the month of October I wasn't really in to much of a hurry to get out on that property so I have been taking some time to get into duck hunting. But I will be back in the tree stands starting again on monday. Will probably be in the trees the entire week! And can't wait!

Dang Joe, that is some tough luck. I dont know man, a guy ought to be able to recover a deer that has an obvious blood trail from one property to another. If it was me, and I am just saying, I think I would have recovered first, asked questions later. Thats just me though.

Man this weather has been landing right on the days I want to hunt. Last thursday and friday were windy. Tommorrow will be ok, but friday and sat. rainy. Sunday looking great all the way up to gun season. I might have to swap fridays hunt out with monday and show up at work on friday. Times ticking for me, want to get another big boy on film and will shoot a doe sometime this weekend for sure. I don't get out too much after this weekend or do any late season hunting, we'll see what happens this weekend?

Good luck Ryan, hope it all comes together for you. I am off the next 4 days. Gonna live in the mountains. Hope they start moving more here, this morning was unbelievably slow. I was glassing from my stand and could actually see a ton of country below me, didnt see a deer move all morning..
