Just got set back up for the evening hunt. I was going to stay put all day however I almost dropped a nice Buck thismorning but he walked through the only spot I didn't have a clean shot go figure. But I watched him go freshen a scrape so I put myself in position to have a shot if he comes back.

That's awesome news we are in the lead! Lets hold it now!

    Well that was a first...

I'll start by saying the last couple weeks at this property there has been 2 dogs running around. I have no clue who they belong to or if they are strays. An hour after I saw the buck this morning I hear them start barking like crazy. The 2 dogs chased a fawn down the trail in front of me then they disappeared. After a bit I changed trees and sat back. About a half hour after I got set up I hear leafs crunching...look over my left shoulder and here comes one of the dogs, a black lab. He lays down on a trail 20 yards from me. I just figured the little fella was wore out from running around everywhere. 30 minutes later he gets up...stumbles 10 feet and falls over. I get out my binos and notice a wound on his hip. He remained motionless the rest of the evening. After the hunt I walk over to him and found out he didn't make it. It looked like he had been shot and a bad shot at that. I took him over to a more secluded area, and placed him in a pit created by a tree that had blown over pulling the roots up and covered him up. Its sad to see something like this happen to a dog. Unfortunately he didn't have a collar so I couldn't contact anyone.

JOE, somebody shoot that dog possibly for chasing deer? I know in this neck of the woods if a dog is chasing deer, they get shot.

On a side note, I had 25 elk directly under my stand tonight, all of them came down off the mountain and filed out past me. Watched 2 little bucks and 4 does in the binocs too.. Elk season is closed unfortunately, opens back up later tho..

I think it got shot just for being on this property. I was the only one hunting there today. Its possible he was messing with the landowners dogs and/or horses. Either way theres still another one out there lol. A small white yippie thing which I think was the instigator of the deer chasing.

Hey guys just checking in. Been hunting hard the past week. I've been seeing nothing, but little bucks, but I expect that on public land. I do hear that there is a 140 walking around one of my stands. I'm still out there trying to get it done. Keep up the good work!

It's the same way back home in Va. If a hunter sees a dog chasing deer they shoot it, but always with a rifle. I can understand strays can be a problem and understand why someone would shoot one, but I definitely don't have the heart to do it. I couldn't stand to see a wounded dog die. I'm a softie:busted:

But on a brighter note good luck to everyone this weekend, it should be good!

Keep after it DL! good things are gonna happen the rest of this month and into Dec! I can't wait to get back out there this evening. :) Taking the rattling antlers for the first time tonight, I am curious to see if I can get a buck to come in.

So far the bucks have been responding well to my can call. Im going to start using my buck roar in conjunction with the can next time I go out to simulate a breeding sequence. A shooter should show up eventually.

I have hardly ever had any luck with the can out here, but I have just enough to keep it around. I like to use it, my grunt and the rattles together as well so simulate a breeding party.

hopefully tommorrow the deer will respond better to calling, no action for calling so far, but the deer definantly stop and investigate the buck fever scrapes and check them out, I can't wait to see any new pics of bucks on my cam. Maybe Mr. T smiled for me once again, then I will be onto him!

Well i had an interesting day today. I stopped at a gas station in Ottawa to fill up and grab some coffee this morning and who do i pull up next too. None other then Nick Mundt and Travis T-Bone Turner and the Bone Collector crew. They are in my area again this year to film an episode of the bone collector. They are super nice guys and we talked for about 10 minutes about hunting and the area. Talk about dumb luck lol.

Well this is it! My vacation officially starts in a few hours! I will be driving to St. Louis tonight to pick up my BIL from the airport. We will be on stand every waking hour over the next 8 days or so. Wish us luck! Hopefully, I can rack us up a few more points. Good luck to everyone this weekend. The action should be heating up!!!
