Guys - I'm still not going to share pics at this point. But I pulled cards this weekend from 2 of the 3 leases I've got (both places in NW IL). At this point, I've got at least 8 seperate deer over the 140" mark and based on what I'm seeing a couple of them are very huntable early season deer. One is an absolute stud as well. Heading to the lease down south in Fulton County this weekend to plant a plot, hang a couple more stands, and pull cards. I've got a good 8-10 cams there as well and If I had to guess it's an even better piece of property than my others. I'm super anxious to see what's down there and can't wait. Will share more info when I get back this upcoming weekend.
The Homestead property never really is a summer spot for big bucks...however come September they start pouring in due to acorn, crop harvest and the fact so many does live in or around it. So after months of no bucks of anything older than a 1 1/2 we finally got a good one...Believe he may be the buck in the last picture (actually two together) from last year....I'm 90% sure they both lived. There was also a real solid young 8 that hung around a lot it could be...but this property sees tons of bucks throughout the year...just typically none ever over 130 and 3 or 4 years old. Nice to know the backup plan property for bucks is always a decent one.
Great looking buck TY, hopefully you can get a better look at him soon. How's the back doing? able to get out and about now?
I grunted through hanging stands and walking behind the tiller this past Saturday and it would feel okay until I'd stop and rest....tighten up like nothing I've experienced. Keep getting adjusted at chiro every other day to keep pelvic/back from twisting back until muscle heals....getting there definitely. I shot my old bow some (current one getting new string) just to test it and I can shoot so that is good to know. Mornings and sleeping are where I experience the most pain at this point...during the day I would dare say I feel normal except for those moments I turn oddly or something. Gonna take a couple swings tomorrow night at softball just to test it out and see where it is for that (end of the year tournies start up soon). As for this buck, yes, I love how he looks all be it grainy and not up close. Still a touch of growing left too...so hopefully in the days moving forward we get some clearer images of him and I fully expect by the time October rolls around we have a decent amount cruising through on the regular.
Its always a tease when they give u a picture you can pick out its a good buck but cant really study him to see what exactly he is. PS How far are you from Peru? Was down there on Friday picking up a new toy Here is a picture of the buck I had show up just cant tell how good he is exactly. If I can use my buddies tractor this weekend hoping to get the last 2 plots done at the farm and one by the house where I shot my doe late season last year.
Looks like could be dandy! Peru is actually even farther than me south. I seriously can be in Michigan from where I live or work in about 10 minutes...the Swamp property is right across the round from Michigan :D
Yeah he looks like he could have some good width but kind of hard to really tell with his ears back. Tines don't look like they will be super long. But from what I can see he looks like he will meet that 3.5 year old mark which makes him in trouble. I am really starting to get the itch to be honest. Finally got the new sight all dialed in, now just need to shoot some slick tricks to try and decide if I am going to use them this year or not. I ended up with 5 packs of replacement blades for NAP killzones so might even use those this year. Cant make up my mind yet.
I know Slicks fly great out of my set up and dang things perform as much as one would think they wouldn't due to how small they "appear". I keep wanting to switch to expensive single beveled heads but the Slicks have done so well for me they keep refilling my quiver and tipping my arrows each year.
Yeah as long as they fly good out of my set up I am going to give them a shot. Think I may have to test them out on a doe early and see how they do. To be honest I will probably have both in my quiver.
Man he's a nice one Neb! I've always wanted a full bobcat or fox mount....good thing is we got tons of foxes around this year but I probably won't shoot one...things are just too cool
Hey curious....thinking of going to a "non" strap on release thinking thumb release. Anyone on the team use one? I'd still have my old tru-fire buckle one...but been thinking for years now of making the switch for less on my hands clanging around while climbing and what not.
Awesome buck. good thing is that he's in daylight and doesn't your season open real early?? I use a Scott Exxus. Would highly highly recommend it if you want to go that route. Had a Tru Fire 4 finger hard core before this one and the exxus blows it away. Last year I had my exxus set super touchy which I loved. But one bad thing with it being so touchy the trigger would touch my face mask or collar on my jacket and go off. Had to make some adjustments this year so I don't have that happening ever again.
I'm going to look at some at the bow shop when I go pick up bow with new string on it. Also gonna check out the Truglo Nitrus wrist release too though incase I just don't like the thumb kind....like the looks of the Nitrus and how it folds out of the way while climbing and such.
