Cellular cam with pictures sent right to your phone....... As pricy as they are I am really starting to consider them more and more with cameras getting stolen. At least at that point u have a picture of them and I am pretty sure the Coverts can send gps signal
Yeah, I just never wanted to swallow that cost of the cam and cell plan...but this property is making that almost a must. I'm sick of it so much I may get it done this year yet....hold off on the Scentmaster Box and get a cell cam.
At least u can use it a cell cam then once its all done u can cancel the plan and then just use it as a normal cam.
This is what the tree looks like where I had my Covert cam that sent pictures to me. Hit by lightning. Fried the camera. I will take pictures of the camera tonight.
Neb that sucks!! Well fellas I am currently waiting on Pops to get here with ladder and a cam. I've pulled two cams off of prime scouting spots for the soul purpose of catching these pricks. Pops is bringing one too. We are gonna hang a cam back in an exact spot in plain site that they stole before and have one cam behind the tree but nearly on the ground angled up at it and another up a tree 15 ft or more aimed down at the spot. Police report and all the past pictures of vehicles and license plates in some will be attached. Landowner is FURIOUS. He is gonna attempt to dig a ditch across the road so they can no longer utilize it.....it is simply an old farm road that has no recorded easement on record. This is gonna most likely start a war....aND take away the joy of the season.
Well at least you have a few other areas to hunt where you don't have to worry about these guys. This road is on the property owners right? Might be a little over boards and idk regulations if it would be legal or not but spike strip??
I hope you catch these scumbags and nail em to the wall Ty. I absolutely can't stand those type of people. The complete absence of respect for others is unfortunately something I see growing more and more in our society. They're probably used to people being afraid of them and their family so the best thing to do ,in my opinion, is don't put up with it and don't be intimidated by them. I hope your plan works and y'all catch them and they can be prosecuted. That's amazingly crappy luck Nebbowhunter. I know it's probably impossible but you almost have to just throw your hands up and laugh at that one. I mean that's just insane. Getting the last few things together for my opener tomorrow. Saving my vacation days for the rut so I'll just be doing an evening sit. I have a pretty good feeling about being able to get a shot at a doe tomorrow evening though. They seem to be pretty consistent on the cam. I hope it comes together soon I need some Veni. I'm going through withdrawal. Haha
Sad thing is they ride horses and cops said if we resorted to anything they could counter charge as ****ty as that is. The road is entirely under the possession of our landowner that let's us hunt and basically operate the cams and anything else that doesn't take away crop fields. I am attempting to find out if any recorded easements exist for the idiot neighbors to utilize this old drive legally....if not the owner kid you not is gonna dig trenches across it to the west and east ends. Yeah that stand is money down along that road as it is mere feet from the refuge and overlooks the alfalfa and corn field edge....but I told dad those straps have gotta be inspected before every time climbing into the stand and to lock in before transferring weight over because sadly they are those kind of people. We don't think they saw the stand as unless you walk into the field and down the line some it can't be seen. I've never really wanted to carry my handgun with me while bowhunting but will be there this year.....this family has some "winners" and I honest to God wouldn't be shocked if they got stupid. We hung a dummy old cam that lights up and works eh less than half the time.....then one facing it from behind in the ravine and one about 22 feet up high (gotta know to look up to see it) facing down at it from a different angle. Police and DNR have reports, we also have knowledge of ICE in the area are currently investigating them as well so the police friend of ours forwarded on all the important things to them as well. He did say unless they uncovered the stolen property by chance or due to something else the probability of seeing the cam again is small...but want it on record and file and he agreed. This property is where all my biggest bucks roam from year to year (RD, Houdini, AWD and Kicks and others to name a few of the big ones) live so it is very tough to deal with this....if the property didn't hold such high potential I would say F it and not care about possibly losing more cams and dealing with it all. This all in the long run sets up a better sales price if the farmer decides to sell me the 30 acres of woods of his total 72 and the 15 acre field to the south....
Just to add to my last post a little......the frustration with this neighbor has been growing immensely over the years. They've been known as habitual trespassers onto not just the farm we hunt but others and the state refuge to the south. We are working in collaboration with the DNR ever since getting trail cam pics of them last year actually hunting the state ground (bow in hand, arrow nocked).....so needless to say it has been exhausting and now this. 3 cams stolen..... Saddest part of it all is all along the landowner has kinda hee-hawed (and rightly so) starting a fued over things with the neighbor...however I sense this may have finally broke the camel's back if you will. At the very least gates will be put up on this farm road and only landowner/us and DNR (they use it to access the refuge) will have keys for it. He really wants to simply dig a ditch with his bucket about 8 to 10 feet deep and 4-6 feet wide but not sure if he can as the refuge spillway may be affected by that. I thought that maybe after a night's rest I'd feel better about the situation but I don't...as a matter of fact while my anger has subsided my resolve to not yield to these jackwagons has grown immensely. I wasn't planning on hunting down along this old road till later on, but I may just set up shop there Oct 1-4th just for the sole purpose of catching them if they sneak on to the state ground....would basically kiss goodbye any chance at the big bucks that have set up shop at the riverbottom by parents but it may honestly be worth it. Gonna discuss things with the DNR and see what they are gonna do if anything....may even offer guidance to that stand and offer them sit in it hidden to watch that roadway the idiots use to walk to and from the refuge. In the end though this all doesn't matter in life and I keep trying to remind myself...not to downplay it but also not to let it consume me and override the joys hunting season should bring instead of dread. If nothing else perhaps this offseason is the year to talk to the landowner about buying....I mean he's already acknowledged the neighbor's are a huge negative influence on the value of the ground :D Then I'll come in and put up a GIANT WALL (contract Trump to get Mexico to build it) all along the West and East borders of the property.....problem solved
With the wind direction this evening I decided to hunt from a natural ground blind I threw together a few weeks ago on my buddies property. It's situated about 20 yards off of a pretty well used trail right on the border of state land and his. Wind direction wasn't ideal for my stand this evening.
Wrote an article you guys may be interested in: Trail Cameras: The Days Of Trust Are GONE On to other news....the bucks apparently have went into their normal pre-season mood and location swings. Not as active in the open fields and the Swamp Property has changed significantly as the alfalfa isn't the only thing worth eating there. The acorns are dropping and the corn is now fully mature (as mature as it is gonna get...farmer now thinks 60% or so of field will be harvestable). Not to mention our 1 acre food plot with radishes, turnips, chicory, rape, rye and oats is popping....but to sweeten it more this year it has soybeans planted in the fall and as of last week are 4 to 6 inches tall dispersed throughout the plot. With the food sources changing and the bachelor groups splitting we always see a period where bucks disperse and some old friends show back up, and some of the summer bucks only show once every week or so if that. The riverbottom property has the same issue....the alfalfa field which had been being visited well before light and almost routinely by the two biggest bucks we've had there since Bow (back in like 2010) has since went cold with bucks. But those woods are oak and hickory thick and they most likely are devouring those food sources knowing they won't last forever. **The plan for opener (Oct 1st) is still up in the air. The DNR may desire us to hunt the swamp property in hopes of catching those idiots that hunt the refuge illegally like last year...but time will tell. I'd really like the wind to be right to hunt the riverbottom spot before the two other hunters start trouncing around smoking and not caring about scent. Remy still smart call on not hunting stand despite deer not coming by. Good luck to those hunting!
Well went to the doctors this morning for a one month follow up. Bones are filled in but not completely healed yet...... he said typically 8 weeks for them to be completely healed. He told me I can ditch the sling completely and start with PT to build muscle back up. Of course my first question was can I shoot a bow. He was very hesitant on saying yes or no but I believe that's mainly for his liability purpose. He did mention they are pretty sturdy and it would take a real hard impact for them to break again. I left there hesitant and not sure what to do.... and still undecided. I did pull back my GF bow the other day (40lbs) no pain or issues with trying that. Since its not exactly my actual shoulder (scapula) I think I may try shooting a few arrows and seeing how that feels and go from there. Still undecided though
