Yeah, I have access to like 70 counties information rather easily due to job, but they do a lot of stuff inhouse and not as much public or accessible....but my contact should be able to track down what you're looking for rather easily.
The hard part is trying to get a number or something to get ahold of somebody. Wouldn't by chance know anyone that is leasing property would ya? Really wanting to find something to fill in the time when my farm dies off.
Not currently....however I am in conversation with a guy about buying or long term leasing a riverbottom property...we'll keep you on the very short list of guys I'd share a spot with (only 2 others and one is my pops)
Sadly yeah this year. Next spring though I'm making a point of scouting some up in the Wolverine state. :D
Good maybe you can help me find some of them dang sheds out there since I cant seem to find them......
Great update Ty. Here's a quick update on my situation. Disced in some Evolved Harvest Winter PZ last sunday. It's a mix of peas oats and some clover for springtime. Did that around the perimeter of the plot. The center area still has buckwheat and we're going to disc in some winter rye and brassica mixes in there in another couple weeks. One awesome thing, I'm not sure if I mentioned before, is that his property directly borders an enormous public land area. I spent some time scouting back in there and found a couple new potentially great spots on the public land aswell. There's tons of sign and can tell it's well traveled. Pulled the card and have no bucks on cam but more and more does are showing up to the plot. A couple have spotted fawns with them. Oh I also started a Tinks mock scrape off of one of the trails on the public land side close a tree I have picked for my climber. Things are starting to come together for me and I'm getting super amped for this season.
Good to hear remy Hopefully things will work out this year. If I remember right still trying to get your first buck?
Remy you are gonna be rewarded brother, stay true to smart tactics and it is all gonna come together!!
Yep still looking for my first buck with a bow. Have taken a few with the guns but not a buck with the bow yet.
Thanks dude I sure hope so. I'm actually just super happy to have the ability and opportunity to hunt. I feel very fortunate to harvest any deer but of course I still hope for a bruiser to walk by me this year. ;-)
Like Ty said hunt smart and it will all come together for you. I got a feeling you will put a buck down this year. Just stay positive and put in as much time as you can
Yeah....you know the other day when we yet again found trespassers on the Swamp Cams.....dealing with sharing the Riverbottom Property with other "lazier" hunters....and our Homestead Property being so small and limited; I really got discouraged driving home. But in all honesty I myself have friends that have no where to hunt...and here I am still to this day don't have to actually pay to hunt a place. Granted I buy trees, gifts and help landowners as much as they need but I don't techiniquely have a lease and I hunt where the chance at a P&Y or better is very possible at all three spots..... ....so I scrolled through my songs on my phone, and grabbed "I Ain't Got It All That Bad" by Montgomery Gentry and reminded myself my hunting situation is pretty darn good. Granted someday I'm going to own my own slice of 20, 30 or more acres Lord willing near or up in Wisconsin.... :D
Finally made it out to look at the prospects this year and it's looking pretty good...... as I knew it should!! Seen a few decent bucks and got to see the big 10 that the landowner had been telling me about. He's been hanging around an oak grove and should be easy to target once the acorns start dropping, as long as no one bumps him out of the area. Kind of last minute but we added another 230 acres that we need to figure out. I've hunted across the road from it so I do have some understanding of the deer movement on our new property. This late in the game we'll probably set a few observation stands though and then move them once we have a better understanding of their patterns.
Checked the new property out on Google Earth and then went out and looked at a couple of spots. When we arrived at the first spot, we found the most used licking branch that I've ever seen. It had several limbs that were chewed, broken, and stripped of bark. When we got back home I brought Google Earth back up and thought I could see a trail on their image that led to from it. As I was zooming in, my youngest son says "there's a buck" and dang if he wasn't right. I've never seen a deer while looking at Google Earth and doubt it will ever happen again. The buck is about 10 yards from the branch and right in front of where our stand will be (I know this is an old pic and we will probably not see this deer but there should be a lot of activity there). Just thought it was cool and share worthy (sorry for the lousy pic, couldn't get the map to load anywhere)
Few updates on some odds and ends here. - Swapped out a new crossbow scope for my dad over the weekend and got it shot in. It was a Nikon Bolt and a vast improvement on the Cross that came with his Ghost 385. Also switched him to fixed broad heads. They shoot the same level as the field points however, impact about 3-4 inches right at both 20 and 30 yards. Not sure exactly why however, we will adjust the scope for the fixed head just before the season. Want to try the head with another arrow first. - I'm hitting consistent out to 30 and getting more confident at 40 again. I think I'm torquing a bit at times and my arrows sail a bit left and slightly up when I miss. - Camera is not in the woods however, hoping to get that done in the next two weeks. Ran a camera all year last however, this year has been tough to get into the woods to scout. - Deer activity at my new house has been consistent with a couple doe and two fawns. I'm not planning to shoot a doe with fawns however, I'm sure there are others around that I can take without young ones. Season is closing in fast. Each cool morning gets me excited.
