I've tried a different mix this year. Sugar beets, rye, closer, rape. I'm pretty sure there is more to that mix but I don't remember. It looks good for 2.5 weeks and deer are hitting the tops. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Thanks for all the suggestions fellas. Gonna check into them and decide which is going to seem to work best for my situation.
Well first camera pull on new property is looking good. I have pics of this buck every night for past 10 days he is standing in food plot I plant last week and hitting the mineral lick that's next to it. This one comes through almost every night as well Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Awesome bucks! Got some good pulls over the weekend. Once I remember to bring them into work I'll share some of them with you fellas.
So racewayking got me in on a small piece of suburban ground that is only about 3 miles from my house. Spent yesterday hanging stands and cameras out there. While it's only 6 acres or so, and I'm sure there aren't any giants living on it.....it's an awesome funnel and it's loaded with does. I also have friends that have gotten pics of 150"+ deer at the farm on top of the hill behind it. I'll spend a few days there when I can't travel overnight to my leases. 30 days and counting!!
Great bucks, hopefully you can get them coming in a little bit earlier soon. Rick suburban areas can be some of those hidden jem's. Where I shot my buck last year is in that type of area, that's why I figure that public area has more potential then other ones around here. A lot of people seem to shy away from those type of areas. Stopped at the farm to spread fertilizer on the plots I planted last weekend. Ended up moving two cams from the creek right by what I call Turkey foots plot. Finally was able to get a good picture of the wide one and he ended up being with the other 8 I have gotten pictures of. I'm thinking that the taller 8 if pretty killable but will see how things change once they shed there velvet. Was also able to get a plot in where I shot my doe last year during the late season. I am really curious how that is going to change things since there has never been a food plot around, and closest ag field is 2 miles away which was winter wheat this year
Another thing working on this week is possibly picking up a lease in Indiana. Looking at the areal view the property had numerous killing spots with pinch points and funnels. But will see how things play out with this.
Oh yeah hey you messaged me about ownership and such. Heck yes I can most likely get you as detailed information as you need depending on the county. Text me bud.
Alright fellas....so I've got good news, bad news and some unknown for updates from the Ty front: First, the good. The Homestead property has never been one to house bucks throughout the summer months, with all the prime bedding but small in size the does take hold of them and buck images never really heat up until September usually....so no surprise that only dark nighttime visits outside the one pic I shared earlier on has occurred. However, just north of our Homestead property is about a 40 acre property we have permission to hunt along a river bottom with a alfalfa field on top of the ridge flat....if we had sole permission this place would be AMAZING. However, sadly the owner has always been one to be walked on and we have to share it with one guy who never asks each year, never says thanks and refuses to park where the landowner asks....and another guy from Florida who comes back routinely just to hunt in the fall.....oh well dealt the cards you have and you make do. This spot is loaded with deer and is the spot I'll be bright and early on opening morning because honestly the first 2 weeks are when we can capitalize most likely here...and there are a few really nice bucks here! Keep in mind this is less than 300 yards from one of our stands at our Homestead across a road...and yes these bucks have been on camera albeit at night at the Homestead...so we fully expect like every year to have all these bucks there as well. The plan is in the next rain to high tail it to this property and hang a stand inside the field edge just 10 or so yards between the two main suspected entrance/exit trails from the field. Our other stand there is in the oak flat so either way I suspect we got 2 maybe 3 chances at this place depending on the other hunters (careless no caution types) tip them off to pressure. Once pressure hits here....they sometimes bump across the road and become huntable at the Homestead :D Now the bad The swamp property which has for the past few years taken nearly all my attention (due to RD) has almost always held the biggest bucks. Last year we had yet again a late season buck show up that drawfs even RD....hope that happens again should I still have a tag. The bad though here is yet again we are dealing with trespassers (getting ridiculous along the one border, from people fourwheelin', walking and now on camera carrying what appears to have the potential to be a platform stand)...careless relatives of the owner are also walking driving around the property with no worries to where or how they trounce and the issue of losing this place come gun season like normal. Despite all that it isn't all bad though as our food plot is popping very strong and the soybeans we just planted should be young and succulent come the opener...not to mention the potential the corn won't get picked due to the extreme rains we got and stunted the corn so bad it may not be pickable....that will change up our approach a lot but in a good way. Some very solid bucks are around again out there, first buck is one we're about 80-90% sure is Junior (Rd's offspring) and he's at least a 3 1/2 this season and officially on the list as I don't know if I can turn him down should he present a shot (early I bet I could...but not closer to gun). The second buck is a buck I coined Low Rider last year...he showed up about gun season and was in the food plot nearly every evening (usually right after light) and loves to fight...last year only 4 of his then 8 points were still entirely intact...this year he's sporting a very clean and nice typical 10...I'd let the air out of him. The 3rd buck is tough to see but it appears to be a typical 8 that his left beam abruptly stops due to a damage while growing or an injury....looks to be a solid buck and I'd love to get a few more clearer pictures of him. Junior Low Rider The beam one. The Unknown RD...still don't have a 100% clear without a doubt confirmed picture or sighting. Now in 2012 he didn't show till like Oct-28th on cam...so I know he lived last year...question is did he live through the off-season. The second picture above in the broken beam buck....honestly his right side and brows look like him and with his age he could be on the down swing and perhaps that is him who knows. I just need a better image to know whether him or not. If that is him...I'll shoot him even if that whole left side were to fall off haha! I also haven't made a point to go to the urban spot yet as I think I may save that for during gun season and late season possibly as a last chance type gig. It's only 10 acres and I don't have an extra stand handy at the current moment....may order a cheapo. Update complete...not all good, not all bad...and ready for the season! (Back is doing better....about 90% I'd say at this point and only over left shoulder and down angled shots hurt)
Ty it looks like things are coming together for you, same with a lot of us on here. The potential to seal this thing up another year is there we just need the deer to do there job and give us the opportunities.
Nick thanks and I put in a call to a contact from the county in Indiana...tracking down ownership name and address of owner for ya.
