I believe so. Hes our only hope! Hope he has a good hunt regardless of the outcome. I really am sad that season is over!
I hope he has good luck also. Lucky for me the Arkansas season runs through the end of February. I'm sure you already know I'm going back after that big one.
I read you were heading back on a last mission. I hope like heck you get him! Think you have a pretty good game plan?
I've seen him three times as I moved slowly into his area. This last sit I saw him plain as day coming across the creek at about 70 yards, +/- 10 yards. I should have ranged him to be sure but I didn't. I only see him in the afternoons about 4:30, and he's always going north to south and crossing the creek in the same spot. I've never seen him in the morning so I have no idea what he's doing then. I'll stay out of there in the mornings. My stand is still there on another creek crossing 25 yards from the creek where I shot the buck. If the water in the creek is as low as it was this past week what I plan to do is get there early, go in to my stand at mid day wearing rubber boots, get down into the creek and walk in the water, stay in the water and mark the exact crossing on OnX. Then I'll go back up the creek, get my stand and walk one time to a suitable tree and climb up. No stomping around looking. No scouting. I know where he is and what he's doing. I just need to make sure I'm within good bow range of his trail and that I'm hidden. Those deer will see you even if you are hidden. Like I said, it's like they can sense your presence. I'd like to have a wind out of a northerly direction also. NE, N, NW, any will do. I can even make an east or west wind work and set up on the correct side of his trail, but I'd prefer not to cross his trail. N or NW would be perfect. If I have to cross his trail I'll go south a bit, cross it and come back north and set up. If the wind is anything south or the dreaded "light and variable" I stay away. Like I said, that last sit gave me the exact info I needed. The other buck just showed up after the big one had left the area and there was no way I was letting him walk.
It sounds like you have a great plan and a great shot at killing him. Ill be tuning in just for your final hunts! Kill em Chief.
You made us all look! Congrats on a good run guys, can’t wait to start again in 7 short months! Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well I did get out and I did have a good hunt. I was hunting the edge of a old cut with high stem count whips. Within 15 minutes of getting set up I had 2 doe at about 80 yards. They nibbled on the whips for 45 minutes or so and I was certain they would work into range. I did have one at 40 yards but it wasn't ethical to just throw and arrow into all those whips. I couldn't do it. Well they ended up working at an angle from my right to left at about 60 yards. I did get eyes on one more doe, but that one was a few hundred yards out. Anyway It was a great, relaxing sit. Sorry I didn't get it done. I had 3 close calls on shooter bucks this year, just didn't happen this year sorry. Great to be teamed up with everyone this year!
No Apologies, It just wasnt meant to be! No sense in winging arrows. Even if one of those does would make us win i wouldnt want you to make an unethical shot. We did have a great run. Im just glad that we would have lost even if i had entered my doe. If chief didnt put his buck down and Ty’s buck was a couple inches smaller id be kicking myself! I had so much fun this season. Having a great team helped that a lot.
Thanks! Haha! You guys ran away with it there in the end i had to screw with ya’s a little, its in my nature!
Congratulations on a great season Team 4! It was a close race and I had a great time competing against your team. One good buck could have changed everything. The 2022 Sign Up Thread should be posted in around 5 1/2 months. Until then, keep yourselves safe and then we will do it again.
