I did get this on camera at a back stand. It's down a little from my primary stand. No pictures of him in day light - but have had him on my other camera about once a week. I think the neighbor is getting him on camera (we just found out he archery hunts and that land butts ours) so if so, he's residing in some pine trees and laying low.
Oh Yeah! Thats a nice one! Hopefully the shows himself during the day. Broadside...20 yards...lights out.
Season opens Saturday. Does are on the hit list. Haven't seen any shooters on camera so hopefully they show in Nov -late season. I have some time off in early October, and November for Iowa. Looking forward to the opener, hopefully the weather cooperates.
Nice Shooting! As far as plans this fall. In 10 days I'll be heading to Southern Indiana for the opener. Last year I went with two buddies and one guy tagged a slammer opening night and another hit one in the shoulder we never found it. Actually he did end up getting trail camera photos in winter. I didn't have a buck in range the 5 days I was hunting. It's cool country with some really potential of a giant buck.
Nice buck Kristen. Cant beat a hunt close to the house! Great shooting too! Dan what zone in Iowa are you hunting?
Nice shooting! Zone 4, with Midwest Antler Company. Looking forward to just being in deer camp. I haven't been in a hunting camp since that antelope hunt I did when we were teammates back in 2017.
Had a little free time this morning so I pulled a couple cards after the rain let up. I have one buck that I would like to get a better look at. Looks young but mass seems decent and looks like he may have some junk. Not a big frame but he might trip the kill switch. Probably a good deer to let walk. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thats a cool looking buck. I agree he looks young and has potential. Would be a hard one to pass! I could neither confirm or deny that i would or would not put an arrow in that dude given the chance. Eh who am i kidding, im shooting him all day long .
He does look like a great buck! Our area in so over hunted and even though I may pass - if it crosses the wrong line it'll get killed by someone else. We're trying to provide a safe haven....but it'll take some time. We just found out the farmer on the opposite side shoots deer at night. So that may put a wrench in my hunting, too. I'll do my final card pull this weekend and see what it's looking like.
Letting them walk is a tough call were I hunt as well. There are some decent bucks in the area but thats because they are staying alive nobody around me is letting good bucks walk. If I have a decent three year old buck running around I never see them as 4 year olds. They vanish.
Vanish into a freezer. It stinks. We really don't hunt for the meat - we hunt for a trophy. (We raise beef cows, pigs and chickens) So my husband is only out to get a nice buck, every year. Around this area of PA.....it's tough. Don't get me wrong, all the meat goes into our freezer - and a buck usually gets turned into slim jims. But, we still prefer to let the younger ones walk. With that being said, I have not killed many bucks - so I do get a little lee-way. I have my eye on a few unique smaller ones.
Already on the board I see Congrats! I need to up my game. Waiting on the weather to break. Starts to cool off this weekend. Was able to check cams yesterday and found a nice doe bedding area. Also a curious bear. I will post pics.

I have been working on the waterlines in this little house for over a week now and I think I finally got it, FINALLY! I’ll be headed to the lease Saturday to put out blinds and check cameras then back to the house and install some shower walls. I do know I’m loving this cold front! Got my neck to swelling and making me grunt around… because of arthritis
Very cool, I’m glad I don’t have to deal with bears here in OH. Temps dropped here. I actually had the heat on to take the chill out of the air. 48 degrees this morning. Rain in the forecast for Saturday. Hoping it holds off or is early.
Rain is supposed to be in the afternoon tomorrow - but it does say light (my husband hunts Ohio and I play weather man, lol). I went to get new hunting boots last night since mine have a hole. I hate the fact that most stores are anti-female hunters. I seriously think if I opened a female/childrens hunting store it'd take off like crazy. I did get a new set of boots - mens of course - but at least they fit. They say they're good for -50* so that'll be great if they are warm! My feet get so cold with this raynauds I deal with.
Hopefully the rain cooperates. I put my rain gear in the wash with the rest of my hunting clothes. I'm not opposed to sitting in a light rain if I know it will stop and the deer will start moving. Wind needs to settle down a little too. My wife has Raynauds too. She does OK with it. I bought her some really warm stuff for hunting and skiing and she manages to hang in there most of the time. I'm post call today and basically off. I busted out the scent crusher tote and am getting everything ready and loaded into the truck. I can't believe the season is here.
