Good morning team mates. I'm in my stand right now. Earlier I saw a big bodied deer looked like a Buck but it was too far away and a little dark. I tried to grunt him in but no luck. The woods are very noisy this morning, lots of branches braking and such. This is one of my favorite spots so we'll see what happens! Sent from my LG-P925 using Tapatalk 2
Good luck this morning Bob... Hank, Right now because of work I'm a weekend warrior. Didn't see much last weekend. I'll be in the stand tomorrow morning. Guess I need to figure out which stand to hunt.
Hey guys, not much going on here season is closed for now, youth weekend is this weekend and rifle starts the week after. Good luck to all!!!
Another good night out, but freaky disappointment. I'm huntin in a blind and bout 6 a hear a grunt in the woods, so I do a couple back and a couple can doe bleats. I hear him come up to the edge of the woods, but he just wouldn't come out. I was drawn waitn for him, but nothin. Here's the bad part. I had a doe come trotin in from about 40 yds and stops broadside to me at 15 yrd, she's stopped on the fence I'm up against. So I draw, and notice that my arrow is slight off the rest and leaning toward the riser. So I take my finger and put it back on the rest. I'm calm and my heart is not racing. I aim at her just behind her leg, pull the trigger release, and PANG! My damn arrow flops off my bow and lands in the blind. Of course the deer bounds out to about 30 yds but isn't freaked, just the noise startled her. So I'm like what the hell just happened! I'm checking my bow over and the string. Everything seems intact. What I think happened is, when I drew back on the buck and let up, that my nock must've loosened up off the string a little and when I drew on the doe, it became unattached but pinched because of the angle of the string in full draw. Talk about a bummer. Never had that happen before. I'm gonna shoot in the yard tomorrow to be sure everything is okay. So much for an easy 50 pts!
That sucks! Last year I had my nock split in half and missed a nice 6! Sent from my LG-P925 using Tapatalk 2
I hunted yesterday at one side of Grand River and saw nothing. I hunted the other side of the river and called in a nice 2 1/2 year old , then a small 4 pointer. I saw the buck chasing a doe but never came close. I hunted today in Kingsville property and had young buck come to my calling from crusher blind. I heard chasing in dense cover but nothing close to me.
Shot a buck this morning. It's a pretty good 8pt. Haven't scored him yet but he has some tall g2s & g3s and he's just outside his ears. I'll try to post some pics as soon as I can. We have a busy weekend ahead of us.
Way to go Matt!!!! Congratulations!!!! What's the story? Are you using taptalk? It makes it soooooo easy.
I got out this morning and called in a nice three year old, 10 pointer. No open shot at 45 yards. I called to him and he stood behind a small group of alders and thrashed them for 10 minutes. He got tired of that and walked away looking for a live doe. I left the woods by noon to see my grandson before they left for Dublin, Ohio. I thought I would see cruising all morning but I couldn't see anything.
Nice Jim! I hope you get another chance at him. I didn't have a chance to go out this past weekend however tomorrow is a different story. I just have to figure out where to go. I'm thinking a spot I haven't hunted yet this year. I got a 4 point there last year. I think I'll make a couple mock scrapes there and put a camera on them.
Way to go Matt! don't forget 2 pic WITH your bow in ea pic. Now we're talkn some points on the board. I'm hopefully heading out tomorrow late morning/early afternoon for my 5 day bow trip up north. good luck to everyone here this week, I'll post when I get back this Fri.
Alright. Here are some pics. I have a video as well. Sorry for the delay, my weekend was crazy to say the least.
Got in the stand nice and early, maybe alittle too early but I couldn't sleep. I'm posted up in my honey hole, it's an old pasture that's grown up with fields, a creek and draws all around it, major doe bedding area. The coyotes are thick and they we sure lively this particular morning. 6 turkeys roosted in a giant tree 50 yds from me, I ranged them... I first rattled around 8:00, here comes a coyote, I could have shot him but didn't want to blow the hunt (so tempting). 8:30ish I rattle again. Here comes this big 8 pt thrashing small trees. He gets to 47 yds and I'm at full draw but I don't take the shot, I'm not that comfortable at the range. I see him rubbing trees the whole way out. In the meantime a 1.5 yr old came in from behind me, walks right under me and follows the big 8 out. I wait 30 mins and rattle again. Here he comes thrashing through these small hedge trees. I draw before he steps out and then let my arrow go at 16 yds. He went about 50 yds and crashed. I have a jackknife camera mount on my bow. The video looks a little better on the computer without photobucket.
Matt, that is crazy awesome!!! I've never seen a deer in the woods that big! Congratulations brother! Have you had a chance to measure him yet? Sent from my LG-P925 using Tapatalk 2
Yeah, sorry about that... 132 3/8 I just posted him to the scoreboard...check it out and let me know if I'm missing anything. His mass was average and he had short brow tines so I think that really hurt his score. He had a huge body as well.
I wonder how old he is? I'm thinking about having his teeth aged. A friend of mine hunts a farm about 2 miles away. He got several trail cam pictures of him in Aug. Here is one. I got 2 trail cam pics of him in Sept. So I knew exactly who he was when he came out.
