Back at it for the PM hunt. Been in the tree about 45 min but the woods are still quiet. I'm down where I think that buck wandered this morning. It's a valley bottom that goes from open hardwood to thick laurel and brush so I'm hoping he's bedded in there somewhere. According to the land owner he's been seeing a small 7 pt buck pretty frequently but it doesn't match the description of the buck I saw this AM.
I'm home grabbing some food before getting back on the blood trail! I stuck one in the side of a smaller buck. I couldnt really tell but I think it's a decent 6-pointer. The arrow only stuck in the side. It wasn't a pass through and ye penetration wasn't as good as I hoped but the placement seemed ok. I'm giving him some time an head back out in a few.
It's not looking good. We only found a few drops of blood and no arrow. I think I might have shoulder shot him. I'm going back out in the morning to give it another look.
No luck. I feel really bad for not being able to recover the deer. There was very little blood at all. I crawled around looking for a few hours and couldn't find any more. I really hope he survives. I do not think the arrow placement was fatal but I hope infection doesn't get him.
Sorry to hear about the lost deer. I shot and wounded a doe last night myself, but I luckily found her this morning. Thank God for the Rage broadheads. She was quartered away and took a step as I shot and I ended up shooting her in the rear quarter. I was sick all last night, but I found blood immediately when I picked up the the track this morning. The blood was surprisingly good and I found her about 250 yards later. I am just happy to have found her
Glad to hear you recovered her. It's an awful feeling that's tough to describe. I hope I'm able to get another shot at him tomorrow.
Good job on the recovery Ryan. Chris tough luck man....its a horrible feeling. Been there felt that, its a feeling i wouldnt wish on anyone!
I'll be in the woods again tomorrow morning trying to pin down the 8 that's kicking around in there. I'll let you know how it goes.
Doe and a big buck down! The buck is still alive. I can see him from my stand. He's laying down but he has his head up. He didn't go more than 30 yards from where he was hit. I'll keep you guys posted.
dang i missed out on a lot this weekend it seems like, congrats on the doe and getting the ball rolling for the team ryan and glad to hear ur surgery went well. man thats bummer ryan but way to hop back up on the horse sounds like u had a heck of a morning this morning keep up posted and pictures
I went out on Saturday night passed on numerous does and smaller bucks. Seen one shooter he came in on opposite side of the plot I was sitting on and he never came into range. All in all it was a awesome night in the stand can't wait to get back out there. Congrats on the doe Ryan!
The buck bumped. I thought almost 4 hours would be enough but im gonna give him 4 more. I have the doe though.
I'm so frustrated. This is the second buck I've lost in two hunts. I can't believe it. I'm so bummed I'm sick over it. The shot looked great. He was slightly quartering towards me. I must have only hit one lung. There was lung matter in the blood trail but he just wouldn't stay down. I'm so incredibly frustrated I just wanna break down.
