Heard from Ryan, a few opportunities at small bucks but nothing he wanted. Sounds like it was tough hunting.
I have returned. It was quite an experience and a complete shift of terrain and tactics. I enjoyed every second of it, but boy it sure is tough out there. After the first couple days and passing numerous does and small small bucks, we were all starting to lower standards, but we still couldn't get one on the ground. Getting a crack at a 90-100" 2 1/2 out there is extremely difficult. I almost had one roughly that size, but he was at 60 yards and in a little brush, so I couldn't chance the shot. I had a chance at a few very nice yearling bucks but just could never quite pull the trigger. Funny how a little change can drop your standards a lot! Now I am ready for our WI opener and ready to get some venison for my freezer
I have 4 more days until I can get out. I can't wait. The following week a cold front is suposed to be moving through and the temperature is going to drop about 15 degree's so I think I'm going to take a vacation day and see if I can't find something out moving. I am ready to get some venison in my freezer.
man i cant tell you how bad i wish i could hit the woods right now. lets see some of your target bucks for this season
Sorry to hear about the tough hunting you had in North Dakota Ryan, good luck this weekend in Wisconsin.
Saturday needs to get here fast. Haven't really had any sightings or pictures of any shooter bucks, but I am confident they will show. I have surgery tomorrow on my ear, Friday will be a recovery day and I sure as heck hope I am ready for 5 AM Saturday. First doe is gonna get it. Maybe even the 2nd one
If all goes well, I will be able to hear again! Which will be just in time for season. Dean, any plans the weekend of the 22nd and/or 23rd? If you're still in need of some doe management let me know.
Tomorrow is the day! For all of you who begin their seasons tomorrow: good luck. Enjoy the anticipation and excitement as you get any last-minute tasks done. I have a few small things left, myself.
Tomm is our first day of are early doe season so Hopefully tomm night I will have a couple pictures of some doe. Cant wait for the 29th when are buck season starts. Also on another note I had two camera's stolen but I think I know who took them. So hopefully ill get em back.
Well surgery went well and I am ready to shed some blood that isn't my own! Tomorrows wind is not very good for me. In fact it's about the worst wind I can have, but the afternoon should be much better. I generally don't like shooting does in the afternoon, but if the mornings hunt isn't very exciting, I may be tempted. I don't know if you guys are interested, but in the past, I've been on teams where some of us shared cell numbers to text on stand and what not. Just an idea. Just shoot me a PM with your number if you are interested and I'll forward all the numbers together for those who want them shared. If not, no big deal, I completely understand. Good luck fella's let's get the ball rolling!
Glad to hear your surgery went well! Well, today's the day! Hitting spots this AM and evening. Hopefully all the hard work will pay off. Good luck to you all. I look forward to hearing from you.
No dice this morning, but I may have a nice buck on camera. Gonna move the camera and hang a stand there and hopefully I can get a better look at him tomorrow morning
Had a great buck in range this morning but couldn't get a shot. He mulled around in circles for about 10 min before wandering off. Even though I didn't get a chance to pull the trigger it was still a great way to start the season.
