Well I gave quick check-in the other day but I'll give a little more background. I'm 24, a career firefighter, and just finished moving into a new house with my girlfriend this week. I was rushed but managed to make it out for the season opener on Monday. I'm typically able to hunt 3-5 days a week. I hadn't scouted one of the properties at all (going with a less intrusive approach as opposed to checking cameras a few times a month) and hunted it opening morning. I took not one, but two shots at a nice big 8 pointer and missed both. Poor yardage judgement on my part and didn't have time to range him. I've been hunting a different farm the past Mon and Tues nights. I have several small bucks and TONS of does. Many in range but the 8 pointer I have on camera on this property hasn't showed up yet. I did manage to shoot a coyote last night (don't think those still count for this contest?) that was chasing a doe and a fawn. So that's that. I didn't make it out today at all. I will be out tomorrow in the morning though and Friday in both the AM and PM. I have a few other properties I have yet to hunt. I'll keep you guys posted. Oh...as for the team name "Down and Dirty Out to Thirty" is my vote. And Tony for captain.
Thing I do for knowing yardage is mark out 10, 20, 30 yards in your shooting lanes with the orange sticks they use for snow plowing, the bright color and reflective tape around top helps it stand out. Hope you get another wack at him. And I second the Vote for Tony as Captain!
Team 34 Thread I've considered that. I move around too much though. I have a climber and very rarely hunt the same tree twice. I had some trees ranged out as soon as it was light enough but of course nothing goes as planned and the deer walked at an angle behind me where I hadn't ranged.
You already seem to have taken the reigns, bossman. Plus you've been around these parts a time or two. I trust you.
Yea and I'm certain he's coming over from across the fence so my chances are gonna be slim. But..... He's there so there is a chance
Just had two small antlerless deer under me. The first was at about 15 yards, the second winded me from behind at 20 yards. The wait continues.
Hopefully a nice buck will be moving around within shooting distance! Slay one dead and be safe. And Tony I think you won by a landslide haha, you've been in this rodeo before, I'm new to the contest part.
Alright...DADOTT it is and I guess I will take the chair since none of you chumps wanna step up I will let Fitz know....
I've been up here since 0430 one doe, and a nice, well 4 point. I've got to clear a damn branch when I get down
