    Hey Jake,

You need a date on your entry or it will get rejected. Great job on the kill by the way. I love all these points on the board.

Great job once again on getting the bonus deer points guys! It looks like a few really good bucks are starting to hit the score board but the way I figure it since we were all fashionably late to the contest it doesn't surprise me that none of us have a buck yet. I am betting once the last week of October hits we will start putting some large bucks on the ground and really get this thing rolling along! I killed 5 deer last year and my first one didn't hit the ground until the last weekend in Oct.

This weekend is the IL youth season. I should get out to the woods in my orange at least on Saturday but that could change if my little cousin gets his first buck. If that happens I will probably be drinking beer all weekend with his Grandpa celebrating the event!

I know I have a few guys’ numbers but mine is 217-841-8478 feel free to hit me up with updates or if you’re bored in stand and you need something to do.

Thats the way it goes. If you would have moved your stand a good buck would have walked under your old spot. Seems like thats always what happens to all of us.

I'm not going to be able to get out much this weekend. Sunday looks like it might be possible. I've never shot a deer before Oct 28th anyway. Our season runs through Dec 6th so I have plenty of time. The temps are high for this time of year mid to upper 70's. Next week we are supposed to start our seasonal cool down, not that it will change deer movement but it will help me realize it's fall. I still have an air conditioner in one of my upstairs windows. lol

Congrats to all those who added some points to the board for us. I've been sidelined for the past 9 days with bow string problems and a nasty case of bronchitis. I hope to be back at it next week. The rut approaches!

    Well Guys,

I've been hunting pretty hard since the season opened almost a month ago. I only missed 5 days so far. I saw some really nice bucks but everything was to far away for a shot. Last night I had a real heavy 14" 8 pointer at 40 yards. He'll be awesome next year or the year after if he makes it. All my big boys have vanished. Same as every other year they go into there October funk. They lay low and fatten up for the rut in a couple weeks. This is the time I hate the most all season. I hate to go out and not see anything but I hate to sit home and maybe miss my chance at a shot. So I guess I will be out in a stand waiting this mid month funk out. It can only get better right?

    Wisbh,

It will get better, thats why they call it the lull. I get to hunt saturday but after that it will be 2 weeks until I get back in the woods. Right now around here it is actually an exciting time to be in the woods or at least near the woods. With all the crops coming out deer are running around from field to field and getting pushed out because of harvest so you never know when that buck may just run right into your area. At least thats what I tell myself everytime I go out this time of year.

Passing on that 8 would have been tough for me. I really havn't had to many good chances at large bucks with my bow since I started bow hunting again 3 years ago. Actually that is a good quesion for the team-

What is the biggest buck you have put on the ground? bow or gun. Mine is a mid 120's 8 point I shot with my savage 220 last year during the first gun season.

1997(?) with a Remington model 700 .270. He's hanging over my mantle. He's a 120 6/8" 8 pointer that was chasing a doe in the peak of the rut

I lied in my post from this morning. The draw was too much. I'm in the stand and planning on taking a doe if I get the chance.

I hope the lack of posts on here means that you are all out hunting!! Check in if your hunting this weekend. I'll be out. There's a cold front coming through late tonight/tomorrow morning. Rain with it. Neighbors are taking beans off. We will have the only beans left in the area. There at least a week or two away from ready. To much corn standing but that's gonna be a while.

I will be out at least twice this weekend. The corn has been cut next to the timber I hunt but the surrounding fields are still standing so I am not sure how it will go this weekend. I would really like to get a doe down.

I really havent killed that many big deer i've killed alot of 6 and 8's none worth scoring. I killed a 9 point a couple years during the rut with a 7Mag that was chasing a dog. I kid you not the deer came in looking for a doe and dog came down the other hill the buck looked at grunted at the dog and took off full sprint after the dog. I ended up shooting him 5 times before he died. I put the 3 bullets in his front shoulder and 2 in his rear hind quarters while he was running. It was literally 35 minutes or longer from the first shot until he died. I ran out of bullets or i prolly wouldve put more bullets in him. He was all kinds of jacked up horn wise.
