Hey that's a pretty good story and congrats on the first archery deer. I still remember my first archery deer like it was yesterday, a great memory I will never forget. Congrats again!

I'm getting excited to check the trail cam again. I put it out at 10am on 9/21 in a new spot. I put BF forehead gland scent on the over hanging branches.

    We'll see.

I tell ya that is the draw back of my main hunting property being 4hrs away. I would really love to get down this weekend to check my cameras and make a plan for my 3 day hunt the next weekend. But I guess on the plus side we really have no pressure at our place because my inlaws don't really go into the woods much they just stay on the main trail.

I have been checking the weather and it looks like it will be 80 degrees opening day here in Champaign County. Then chance of rain about everyday during my 3 day hunt in Indiana on the 4,5,6. Makes me glad I finally put a ground blind up down there!!!!

I have the best luck hunting the rain. The deer seem to move a lot. Not down pouring or thunder and lightning but just a steady rain. The warm weather sucks.

yeah and its a pretty big challenge not sweating on my way to any of our stands down there because it is so hilly. During the early fall I usually walk in with shorts and a tshirt on and then change into my gear once I clear all the hills.

I have to work tuesday morning but as far as I am concerned it could be 90 degrees, I am still going to be in the woods that afternoon!

I doubt I will be able to go hunting until October 12th unless I can get a day off work. It doesn't really bother me. I go in all pumped up and by the 28th of October (before the rut!) I'm getting burned out. So, not hunting until the 12th is okay I guess.

I know what you are saying, last year I put in more hours in the woods then I ever have and by the last week of Nov. I was burnt out! luckily for me I won't be in the woods much for the middle couple weeks of October so I should be good to go for Nov!

Ckeith I would put and arrow in that buck without question! I am starting to worry a little because I am am hearing reports of several deer being found dead in my area of Indiana. We havn't had any new pictures of that big ten for several weeks now and I worry that he have died. We have several deer in the 120's but I really need to let them grow. It will be interesting to see how this season turns out. It would really ease my mind if a huge IL giant would just step out next tuesday and offer a shot.

Are the deer in your area effected by EHD or CWD?

Well my evening of making me some nice blinds behind the farm was ruined after I had already got them made and situated! After I was done, I took a little walk just to see where the deer had been entering the field I plan on hunting and low and behold, another guy has put up a stand, on the same trail my deer are walking out on, in a tree less than a foot away from the property line!! The edge of his stand is actually on the ground I hunt, thats how close! Nothing I can do but kick rocks and hope, and I mean HOPE, that he has to work like a mofo this deer season and not get a lot of hunting time in! Burns my ***!!!

And thats just on the south side! On the west side, again right on the property line, is another stand..Ive never seen anyone hunting out of it but its a fairly new ladder stand that was there last year, im thinking part of the orange army! But still, they have an *** ton more land than I do to hunt and they decide to box me in like crazy! :hater:

Ohio county Indiana is where our property is. I guess several deer have been turning up dead down there with EHD. We founf a doe on our place 2 weeks ago next to a pond. I know it happens and there is nothing you can really do about it but it still sucks!

Waggs thats just shows that you must have great deer movement on your property if those guys are setting up right on it. Once the season starts just keep hunting and good things will happen. Also if you are worried they may come on your land just put a trail cam about 10-12 feet up in a tree and angle it down towards the spot you want to catch guys walking on. Once you catch them just tell them you'll let it slide this time if they back the property line stands off about 75 yards.

My boss is going to try and make me go to a horse show in NOVEMBER! Like the 7th! Horse CHIT! I'm getting upset....I'm second in command...but he is the owner...I told him no, but I don't know if that will stick. Looks like I'll have to go to a show in early OCT which sux but it isn't as bad I guess.

I will be hunting the afternoon of the 1st in my home county here in IL. Farmers are in the fields like crazy now so hopefully that will make the deer move early in the day light.

I also will be down in Indiana on the 4th,5th, & 6th hunting. The weather forcast is showing rain all day for the first two days but that sunday morning will be in the mid 40's and cloudy with a high of 69. of course thats over a week away so I am hoping for a change on the rain.
I should be able to at least put a doe on the ground by the end of the week.

So how is that going to affect your hunting? Do you still hunt mornings? Up here we don't start on beans until about 11:00 in the morning so morning hunting is not effected.

We always waiting until 10 or 11 to start cutting beans when we still had our farm so the morning hunt was never in danger.

Well I just checked the weather and its going to be pretty warm on Tueday but I just can't stop thinking about opening day! I am to excited for this season. Last year was my best season to date I killed 5 deer (2 bucks and 3 does) and I am looking to put up the same numbers this year with even better bucks.
