Well get us started with that new bow! I can't hunt Wednesday, Thursday or Friday because its going to be about 80 with thunder storms here. I will be out tonight trying to get something going.

Okay so here is my update. I put a new string on my bow that I purchased from Bowstringdepot.com. Hutch is a really good guy. Anyway, I can't get the daggum thing to tune worth a chit. Yes I can hit center but the arrow fly's like a wounded duck. I need to paper tune I guess, it's just frustrating. I thought for a second I was under spined...I'll figure it out. I got two weeks or so until the opener.

I haven't pulled a card yet, but I plan to this weekend some time. Last year after I shot my buck (you can only shoot one buck per season here) I saw a nice 8pt. If he made it through the winter he will be a brute!

There was a group of 19 deer seen traveling through the area I hunt the other day. I saw video of it. Only one buck that I could see and he wasn't a shooter.

    That's it for now.

The One Buck Rule can really be frustrating sometimes. It has happened to me in Indiana before. You shoot one buck and while you may be happy with that deer later in the season you will see a bigger deer but you can't shoot it and it really eats at you.

But on the flip side I also love the OBR because more bucks survive to see an older age which means better antlers.

I love the OBR. It keeps idiots from shooting anything they see with horns. The buck I shot before I saw that guy was bigger. But this one was a shooter last year. I hope he made it through the winter, spring, and summer....so I can kill him in fall. :nana:

So i broke down and bought a lone wolf hang on for my public land run and gun set up! i havent ordered my sticks yet because i hoping to find a good deal on some, but after i ordered my lone wolf i found a muddy vantage stand and sticks for 150 now i really debating on buying the muddy! This has been my biggest decision i've had to deal with in a long time. Do i want to order the 4 32inch LW sticks for the stand i already bought or do i drive 2 hours away and pick up the Muddy stand and 4 20 inch sticks for 150.

Get both. You never know when you'll be taking a trip to Wisconsin and need an extra one.

I collect tree stands like my wife collects shoes. If I see a deal I can't pass it up because you never know when you will need another one

Good then it's settled Ckeith will take both!

Well it looks like the farmers are done drinking coffee and watching the grass grow. A few of the guys in my area are starting to open up some fields. I imagine as soon as the local COOP puts on a drying deal you will see them all hit the fields and and get this harvest kick started.

But that being said harvest is going to be a long one this year. there are several fields around Central IL that have just now started to turn so it won't be until the last week of Oct. or Early Nov until they are ready to come out. This really hurts my IL spots because most of my timber I hunt is surrounded by the late turning crops but luckily most of my stands are in travel routes between fields.

My Indiana property doesn't have an Ag field around for about 4 miles. Thats why it is so critical for me to get a few good large food plots going.

The corn here will be ready in October. It's already started to turn because we went 50 days without rain here. it's rained a few times the past couple of days but it's too late to make a huge harvest difference. The only thing that would keep the harvest from being early is if the fields get too wet now. But I image most of the corn will be out by the first of Nov. That's right on time for this area.

It's driving me nuts trying to decide if I should hunt today. It's 78 and humid with a chance of thunder storms. I can get to a stand without getting all sweated up but I always think what if you make a bad shot. It happens to us all.

    What would you do?

I hunt when I can...The season is too short to miss days I could be hunting. I practice so that when it's time to make the shot, I make a good one. As far as the rain...not ideal. Just keep an eye on the weather. If it starts looking bad...head home.

I would head out and hunt but I would be selective with my shots. I enjoy hunting before storms I always see good movement.

I wouldn't worry about a bad shot or losing a blood trail if it rains, you know you can put a good shot on a deer and thats what you have to believe. in the event it does happen don't panic and give the deer as much time as you can while still being able to possibly trail him.

Practice never ends for me. I shoot at least 5 times a week and try to get in one or two rounds of 3D a week. But all a deer has to do is take one half a step to turn a lung shot into a gut shot and in 8 to 12 hours I would be recovering a rack and not a deer. It's not going to cool down much tonight and is going to be worst tomorrow. I hate missing a day too but in this case I think I better. Maybe go scout my other farm and get some practice in.

Hey guys just checking in! Saturday is a big day for me, have to go check my cams for the last time before the season opens on the 28th. Also have to hang one more stand and make some alterations to my home made ground blind. My last card pull was a major bummer, my 3 main bucks were no where to be found but I am hoping it was a fluke because I have had solid pictures for the past 3 months. Also I need to make it out to the range a few more times to get more comfortable with my new sight. Good luck to everyone, and damn it lets get on the board here soon.

Off to bed for me. Heading out in the morning for a few hours and then pulling cards on the cams. Only down side is that I can't sit all day because of work in the afternoon. Here's to wide and tall racks at sunrise!

    ^^ Good Luck SMFD!

I got my bow sighted in last night after the new string. I practiced for about 20min in low light and I can't wait to shoot it again tonight. I'm going out to the timber this weekend to swap cards and get my climbing stand out of storage. I'm just going to set it outside so that it "airs out".

    11 days to go!

I pulled all of my gear out 2 weeks ago and washed my camo now its tucked safe and sound back in its 2 containers. I also throw in some of those scent waffer things as well.

I took inventory of all my stuff and I am sitting pretty good this year. I did have to get a new pack because the zippers gave out on my old one last year. I had a gift card to ****s Sporting Goods so I went with a field and stream brand and I like it alot. I also let my new ground blind air out for a few days and sprayed it down with a couple coats of that ameristep blind waterproofer and water repelant. I don't know how well the water proofer works but it did kill the "new blind smell" pretty well. here is a picture of it brushed in after I put it up last weekend. Its located just off of a pinch point deer are using to go from the main timber into a large cow pasture/small timber
