I take ****s at squirrels from time to time with a field point on an arrow. Never tried to hit a weasel, but never seen one either

So close!! So last night I was out on my last evening for this metro hunt. I hadn't seen a thing all day. I had a date later that night and was going to cut the timeline really close. I got tired of sitting with nothing coming by so I decided to get down at sunset. Got down, got my lw alpha all packed up, and started heading out. I'm about 125 yards off the road on this little path and I look to my right and see a doe bedded down 20 yards off the path staring at me. She gets up and runs off, but stops and starts grazing a ways away. I figure what the hell and I kneel down and shrug the stand off, dig my rangefinder out of the bottom of my pack and nock an arrow. I crouchwalk/ crawl to 30 yards, range this deer and stand up and draw. She's almost facing me so I wait for her to turn, but she spooks again and runs another 30 yards. I do the whole stalk again and get to 27 yards away, draw my bow, then hear this clang. About 100 yards away a guy on the other side of the ridge was taking down his stand and banged the ladder. She ran off for good this time. I didn't have anything to show for it, but that's one of the most exciting deer hunting moments I've ever had. Ha and to cap it off I didn't get any more action on the date than I did while hunting. Headed home today to hunt the home farm for the next week.

That sucks! Team 33 has a few hard luck stories already. I am in the stand for the evening. East wind? Making the best of it. The corn is still up: to the south ImageUploadedByTapatalk1413061201.918163.jpg

Been several does on camera and a few nice bucks. What the hell, why not a trophy?

Last night I had a small spike walk under me. I couldn't pull the trigger on him. But today I am going back with my 10 year old daughter. We will put the bow away and get out the muzzle loader and the orange. If he comes back. Here is a few picks of him. trailcam2014 043.jpg trailcam2014 047.jpg

This is another young buck that was in front of the stand Friday night at 7:15. Maybe with a little light rain and cooler temps he will show up at 6:15 tonight? Great SE wind tonight is almost perfect trailcam2014 015.jpg trailcam2014 022.jpg trailcam2014 023.jpg

I'm not sure what has happened the two farms I hunt that had several nice bucks and tons of does have both just turned off the last couple weeks. 12 hunts and I have seen 6 deer total and all 6 were in one evening hunt and they came out as I was packing up to get down well after shooting light. checked all 5 cams that have been out for 3 weeks and a couple young bucks I don't have any pictures of previously showed up and some does but not like there had been or has been in the last 5 years I have hunted the one farm. I never have experienced this starting to get me down.

Not much you can do wack. If there is still corn up nearby that probably has something to do with it.

Ya all this rain isn't helping them get the crop out. The property is 4200 acres total and only half the corn is out. It will be a couple weeks before I get back up there I hope it gets out by then.

Well I'll kill one for you Friday if you kill one for me while I'm at work Saturday. I think the team would allow that.

'In' the tree now. Pretty big fail getting set up. Be amazed if I see any form of wildlife. We'll see what happens I guess.

I'm in the tree to it would appear that I picked one with a wasp nest in it. Hopefully they don't bother me.

Tonight was uneventful as expected. I was going to try to go out and set up in the dark tomorrow morning. After tonight I am second guessing my ability to do that quietly and more importantly safely. So we'll see I guess.
