flopdrop is back from Colorado..... guess I'm too late the way it looks. I'll pm Fitz and see. Elk hunting lands don't always have communication with the rest of the world. Sorry!

Hey guys, just got back form Colorado today. It seemed the rut was almost non-existent with little to no bugling and elk just not herded up at all, but there was also much more hunting pressure this year than normal, but thats just part of the game on public land. I was able to close the deal on a cow near the end of the hunt so the freezer got full.

Great avatar guys! Grizzly unless you don't want to, you've been doing all the organizing, PMing and talking to Fitz, so do you just want to be captain? You've got my vote unless someone objects. Good luck guys.

Congrats MNpurple!! Looks like you found a dry place in Colorado to hunt also. We had 14 days of rain with 11 of them multiple showers adding up to over 2" per day. we were starting to wonder if we would get off the mountain or not. Elk were not in areas we had hunted in the past and expanding our hunting area's range, was not an option. Due to moving camp in the rain. We still found a couple elk and chased after them and enjoyed memories to keep us going till the next time we head to Colorado.

    Griz.....

Name is Brian and I live in southern IL south of St. Louis, MO. Hunting is primarily along the Mississippi River. Last 5-6 yrs. flooding has not cooperated with good hunting conditions. This year looks like another bust. Still hunt 2 weeks in early Nov. in Adams & Brown Counties. killing enough deer to fill the freezer.
    Season starts Oct. 1st.

Way to go on the cow buddy! Glad you could stay dry.

Sorry I haven't been around more guys. After I killed my elk, got him butchered, and got ready for family coming into town I have had limited amounts of time. I have this week off and I may go hang a stand for does. I am fully committed to hunting Mule Deer off the ground during the rut this year, I want a mountain buck. Now that my freezer is full it's a big buck or bust.

Well come on Backcountry, lets see the pics of your bull! Colorado was so wet this year, it rained every day and one morning I woke up to the ground completely white, not from snow, but from pea sized hail.

I couldn't get out this weekend, anyone else?

Went out a little bit this afternoon, didnt see anything. I was hunting a new spot on public land and scouted a bit after I got done hunting. Turns out I wasn't in the right spot. Like 200 yards away there was so much deer sign you'd think they had a block party.

Also, mnpurple, I can continue with the captain part. I'll pm Fitz and let him know, unless anyone says otherwise.
Hunting should start heating up soon with everybody's seasons starting in the next few weeks!!

I didn't do any scouting this weekend, against my better judgement, but I did go over my bow and broad heads. I should be ready to go as soon as the season starts in another week here. Hoping to scout some public land this week after work.

Edit: Congrats on the elk Backcountry. Sounds like it was an awesome journey, if a little trying at times. Congrats on the cow, MNPurple.
