Any one see anything this weekend? I walked up a couple does and got to within 20 yards while going to the spot I was going to hunt, but never saw a deer while on stand last night. I got the next 6 evenings off to go hunting and hoping to find a buck by the end of the week!
I saw a decent amount of deer the last two evenings but was unable to get a shot. Going to try again tomorrow evening.
This Sunday will be my first sit for the season I don't have any pictures since my camera was stolen and I don't have the money to get a new one at this time but there is a lot of sign in the area I'm hunting so maybe I can't put some point on the board Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I own 5 cameras and love them. I love being able to see what is lurking in my area. But truth is, all my biggest bucks I've shot we're taken from areas I did not have cameras in. I had a big conversation with my buddies about this recently. They were asking me if I've ever shot a buck I was chasing on camera. And I sat there and could only think of fork bucks and other young ones. All my big bucks were in areas I was not setting up cameras. My opinion if your in a pressured area cameras is not new to them. They smell of human and a smart big buck knows, human.... Bad...... I know lots of guys kill big bucks right in front of cameras. I'm just sharing my experience.
I've never shot a buck I have on camera either... but that might have to to with the fact I'm not picky once the rut turns on. First mature buck that presents a shot is going to get a side ache.
I've shot several deer I've had on camera... then again I don't pressure them. I watch moon phases and pressure fronts as well as what my cams are telling me. I've learned that if I can figure out which way he's coming from then I can move towards his bed and kill him in daylight hours. Now with the Covert Spec ops cams that send pics to your phone I stay out until they tell me to hunt!
Had a good sit tonight, Saw 4 deer and 2 were bucks of which 1 was a shooter for me. Just never came close enough. For you guys that are talking about cameras, I have shot many deer that I have got on camera. For early season hunting its the best way for me to find a deer and chase him. For example from this year I was getting a nice 9 pt on camera during the summer, then disappeared. Then a couple days ago I was hunting about a mile away from that camera at another stand and that 9 pt walked by me at 75 yards. Its good to know its a deer that I would shoot and now I have a better idea of were he is living now.
I didnt get out last weekend so I am really looking forward to getting out this weekend. Weather is supposed to warm though. We need some points on the board!
Tomorrow is our opener. Sitting an observation stand if I can see the buck I'm looking for in his bedroom then I'm going to dive in Sunday afternoon to try and kill him. Figure I have about a 1:500,000 chance LOL
We are less than a week from our opener now. I won't be going until next sat though. Went scouting yesterday seen some good sign and 6 deer.
I bet a few of you guys are pumped with your season starting this week! I have been out every day this week and seeing alot of buck activity in the wooks well before dark. Between today or tomorrow I hope to get a buck down!
Saw 3 bucks and 3 does yesterday, one potential shooter 130-140" couldn't get a great look since he was 250 yards away. Def a 4 yr old body though. This am I saw 5 bucks and 2 does, had a beautiful 3 yr old low/mid 20's 6x4 walk right under me. Could have shot him a 100x. Just not what I'm looking for, plus he'll be a giant in a year or two. Back at it Tuesday evening if my schedule allows.
Nice, its always nice to see bucks in early season! I hunted 6 days straight last week and saw 5-6 different bucks, but the biggest was a fully mature 100" 9 pt. I would have shot him if he was closer, but never got closer than 75 yards.
