Think I'm going to name this deer BJ (Big Jump), I let him go all last year with hopes he'd be a better deer this year and possible the following but never imagined he would of grown this much! He def made a big jump! 2013: 2014:
It's killing me too. We've got some nice mature bucks on my parents ground in Ohio. I'm only going to be able to hunt on the family farm the first week of October. Not the best of time to go hunting. I live in Wisconsin now and my wife is having a baby in December so no hunting during the rut this year. Got to make it happen early. Hope those guys are moving when I go down there.
Wow! Nice bucks everyone! I was out last weekend and had 4 does and one small buck at 30 yards. Great opening weekend with the chilly weather! Ill be back on that public next weekend!
See you got this all wrong. Wrong mentality. You need to explain to your wife. That with new baby around money will be tight. So I need to fill the freezer to give us some free meat lmao. And if that does not work don't worry I can fly down to Wisconsin and wrap that tag on that monster if you need lol
Believe me I 'very tried everything. It took a lot of convincing for me to be able to make the trip to Ohio the first week of October. I probably wasn't clear before but those big boys are from Ohio not Wisconsin. So far up in WI all I've had on camera are a couple 100 inchers and one deer that would make p&y.
Hey guys, Tonight was my first afternoon hunt and I figured I should share the adventure. My stand is near a corner of a corn field and I'm in a pine tree that connects to a row of young pines overlooking the field. I really have no business in the tree because they are all relatively young and whenever I move the tree moves. But it's in a great spot and it gives me good cover so I hunt it. At 5:00 a doe comes out of the woods and I draw when she is about 8 yards away. She either heard or saw me because she jumped back when I drew back. She didn't run off but slowly retreated to the woods. So close to 50 points, sorry guys! I text a buddy from church and he basically tells me I have no business shooting does on this property right now because nearby a 150 was taken the other day and he knows that there is also a 130 and 140 class deer in the area. About 30 minutes go by and I hear something and turn around and see a deer moving in the woods. I'm trying to get a good look at it and then I hear, cling, clang, clank. An arrow fellow off from my quiver, hit my stand, rattled around and hit the ground. The deer looks up, luckily it was a doe, and turned around to retreat further into the woods. Another 30 minutes go by, then two does come out by the corn field. They eventually go into the corn field but they go east in the corn field and bust me with the wind. They snort and sniff and make all kinds of noise. I almost called it a night because I figured I wouldn't see anything else and I didn't want to ruin the spot if I hadn't already. I should have my own tv show, I just need to grow a beard and we can call it Deer Dynasty. Anyway, I start texting my best friend about how terrible my hunt has gone and I look up and there is a doe 12 yards away. the doe looks back and what do you know a little 6 pointer comes out. He comes right up to my tree and sniffs the stinking arrow I dropped. He pulls a couple ears of corn off the stalk and he then heads into the corn field. The doe looks up and then three more does come out and they all go to the cornfield. I'm pretty sure three out of those four does were ones I had seen earlier that evening but they all came right back to the same spot. It was a terrible and yet an amazing first evening hunt! Hope you don't mind me sharing it with you.
Joe that sounds like it was a great hunt, always learning in the woods. Many times I have had does blow for no reason, and there is a buck there too and he won't even look up. I think a lot of bucks just don't care what the does are doing.
Ya I cut cedar branches and attached them to the blind. They will stay greenish for the season that matters. By November it will be all white anyways.
