Pretty uneventful weekend for the most part.

Saturday AM hunt was hot and humid with zero deer sightings.

Saturday PM I sat out and did some stuff w/the family.

Sunday AM hunt we saw a doe and button buck. Was going to shoot her but never gave me a clear shot and eventually she busted us (still not sure how) and that was it.

Sunday PM hunt was the most eventful of the weekend, but I was behind the camera. Sat over one of our brassica/oats plots and saw 7 deer. Mostly all does but a nice low 130's 8 point we call Ron Mexico came out at last light and worked a couple scrapes. He was heading right for our plot but was unfortunately down wind and got to about 80 yds before button hooking and getting out of dodge.

Back at it one afternoon this week and then next weekend. Hopefully the temps stay cool! I'm seeing a lot more scrapes and rubs pop up the last week. Prime time is just around the corner!

saw my first buck on stand for the year. He looked like he could have been a 110-115 buck... He was about 50 yards out and never gave me a chance to check him out through the bino's.... His rack was wide though... Hopefully I get a better look at him soon

The first week of hunting was not that great with the hot 80 degree temps and high humidity. My highlight was seeing a couple nice bucks come out into the bean field right at dark opening night. Cant wait for cooler temperatures and some more of the crops to come out.

I worked Saturday but I managed to make it Sunday. Sunday morning I saw a deer before daylight so I couldn't tell what it was, then two does and their fawns(this property I'm going to leave the does alone for a few years). At another property Sunday evening I had a doe broadside at 40 yards. I figured it would come closer so a held out on the shot.....it decided to relax and bed down for the night right there.....my luck. The deer have been moving though so I'm happy!

Nice job! I'm heading out tomorrow afternoon to try and whack a nanny myself. Provided I get the right wind they've been coming by my stand pretty consistently between 5:30-6:30 every night. Of course I'm sure they'll be a no-show when I'm there but it can't hurt to try.

I love the toxic broadheads. They leave a nice big hole. I will be using them for the rest of the year.

Congrats on the doe! Didn't sit this past weekend was busy getting married. Went out on Monday evening and saw a few does, but they didn't come in close enough. It was very slow, but it was also a spot on our farm that I have never hunted. I am going out on Sunday and will hunt both morning and evening. Hopefully I can put something down.

Had a bad case of mistaken identity this morning :)

Was watching a few doe working my way and had decided to shoot another big ol nannie when all the sudden a buck slipped into my shooting lane . I took 1 glance and said that him then launched the arrow . I was hoping to shoot a upper 120s - low 130s 4.5 year old to get him out of the gene pool but ended up with a 115 or so 3.5 year old , thinking that's even better :nana:

I know they claim you can't control genetics but I can't seem to give up on the idea :)

Congrats on the buck! I'm heading down to my uncles property to put out a couple cameras and hunt the afternoon on Sunday!! Got these three bucks on camera there last year and had an encounter with the big 8 and gnarly buck with all the junk last year also! big 8.jpg big 10.jpg captain hook.jpg captain hook 2.jpg PICT0477.jpg

Also, can't wait to get after the buck that shed this antler last year! 2013 shed.jpg Never saw him on the hoof or on camera, so this year I hope to change that!

Congrats on the buck! I'm headed out in the AM to see if I can't get something going. Been a very slow start to the year for me.

O I forgot to ask this but when I called my deer in to the DNR number, their was a Survey about seeing wild pigs this year. Are they moving up to IL now?

Smacked a buck Saturday evening. I grunted and a few minutes later here he came, walking straight for my tree. He finally turned broadside at a whole 4 yards :dan: . I'll get him scored and posted to the scorecard later. It felt great to shoot a deer with a bow after a three year dry spell!
