Nice work on the doe! Nothing like that first ice breaker for the year.

I've got a nice weekend of butt-kissing planned with the wife (dinner, play, hotel, etc). After this it's go time so I need to butter her up while I can. Thankfully it will make the weekend fly by and then Tuesday afternoon I'll be in the stand. Can't wait to get out. I'm dying here.

    Thanks all !!

Just about filled my first buck tag this morning . Had a 4.5 year old buck coming in that I had passed several times last year . When he was 45 yards out he turned north instead of south like he did every time I'd seen him last year  That alright though , still a lot season and I'll see him again .

So I had a rough opening day. To start I forgot my thermos. It wasn't a big deal as we have some spares at the cabin. In the morning I grabbed the spare filled it with coffee threw it into my pack and off to my favorite stand I went. After a couple of hours in the stand ( it's a platform we built into a triple tree) I thought I heard a deer coming in so I grabbed my bow and stood up and leaned over the tree in front of me to get a better view and I had a sudden craving for a cup of coffee. I started thinking " why do I want a cup of coffee so bad that I can smell it?" I open my back and the thermos had a crack and it leaked all over my jacket and inside my pack. After sitting awhile longer and not seeing anything I head back to the cabin for some lunch.

Fast forward to the evening hunt. I pick a stand that I've never seen deer out of because I had a feeling that something good would come by. I've been in the stand for over 3 1/2 hours without so much of a " I bet that sound is a deer" moment. I bowed my hand a prayed to the good lord above to have a deer come by my stand. Not ten minutes after that with only ten minutes of shooting light left, I hear the crunch crunch of a deer walking down the mountain. I slowly turn and see the biggest deer I've ever had a shot at. He's moving slow head down. I grab my bow and say to my self he's 20-21yards away. He steps behind a tree I draw and as he walks into a shooting lane, I hit him with the MMMEEEEEERRRPP. He stops broad side looking at me. I put my pin on his heart a loose my arrow. I see the broadhead spark against a rock 1 inch below where I was aiming. I MISSJUDGED THE DISTANCE. He was over 25 yards. He scampered off leaving me with a sickening feeling. I climbed down got my arrow and sure enough no blood. I was so angry at myself. I guess it's time to save up for a range finder.

Great job on the doe! Sorry about your misfortune SLINGnMISS. Had a scare this afternoon.. got word that a neighbor shot a good buck and he told me that it was a narrow 10 which described the big buck that I had on camera a lot this summer. Sent me a picture and thankfully its not him! phewww

SLINGinMISS - that stinks brother!! But don't fret too much, we've all been there at one time or another, myself included. Just gotta stay after it and good things will happen.

Season opens here tomorrow but I probably won't get out until Saturday. Weather doesn't look too great for the rest of this week so I'm gonna wait. No use burning out my best spots early.

Good luck to everyone, after tomorrow it's go time!

I'm going to be hitting the woods in a bit. It's 60 degrees this morning but at least the wind is in my favor and that's enough reason for me to go hunting. I would be dreaming about deer at school all day if I didn't lol. Good luck to any who hit the woods today and be safe!

Sat on Sunday night hoping to get a shot at a doe. I have had no bucks on camera at this location. About an hour before dark here comes a 5 point and then right behind him a nice 8 point. I aged him at 2.5 around the 115" mark so I let him walk. It is the first time that I have had a pretty nice buck with in 15 feet of a ground blind, it was pretty intense.

Haven't been hunting too much the last week. Hunted a good spot for a couple days early so I wanted to let it cool down. Checked my cameras tonight and had a bunch of pictures of the typical 10 that I've decided I will not pursue this season. He has too much potential as a 3 yr old and I'd love to see him at 4 or 5 yrs old! Here's a couple pictures. Hope everyone's hunting is going well!

Good looking buck but I agree, needs another year or two. I had a 3 year old last year that was very similar but unfortunately the yotes got to him somehow and tore his back end up pretty bad. A few weeks later my buddy shot him as he wasn't looking very good and the wound was seriously infected. Not sure he would've made it through winter anyways. Ended up scoring right around 125 or so. Hopefully your buck makes it another year.

Looking like some severe storms here Saturday AM so my first hunt could potentially be Saturday afternoon. With cooler temps next week I'm thinking about sneaking in a couple PM hunts during the week as well.

I'll be in FL on vacation next week, so the next time I'll be able to hit the woods is in a couple weeks! Hopefully the weather cools down by the time I get back. Good luck, everyone!

We for sure need a cool down. I've hunted three sits, three different places, and sweated every time. I'll probably be waiting until the cooler weather gets here this weekend before I try it again. At least the squirrels seem to enjoy this weather, lord knows I've seen a few hundred lol

I'm definitely looking forward to getting out this weekend after the cold front moves through. In my past experience this first dip in temps in October usually has the bucks up and moving during daylight so it could be a good opportunity to kill a nice one. I got a call from a friend who saw the big one I'm after in an alfalfa field at 10 am this morning, 100 yards from my stand. It's nice to know he's in the area since it's relatively small. I'll be in there on Saturday hoping to capitalize on the cooler weather and get a shot. He would be a good 170 point addition to our score. :D

The temp for in the morning is supposed to be the coldest in Oklahoma so far this year (only 44 but it's a start) with little to no wind. Hopefully they'll be moving! :deer:

So it was storming very bad here last night... The temps dropped about 15 degrees and the wind has died down... Guess who works 3rd shift and does not get off till 30 min after sun up.... THIS GUY

So so so frustrating having to watch this all take place in front of me and I cannot be in the woods...

Good luck to all you lucky ducks that get to enjoy it... Shoot Straight!!!

Know what you mean , I'm headed to work in 1.5 hours . My boss did call last night while I was tracking down my doe to tell me he'd work for me this morning but with the west wind I'd just screw something up .

Good luck to all that make it out !!
