Tomorrow morning is opening day! I work nights and hopefully I'll be off by midnight. I got up early in the hopes of being able to get in bed as soon as I get home. Had a doe and a small 6 pt under my stand this morning. The only shot she offered was at two yards straight down. The buck stopped broadside at 15 yards. Back in a different stand this afternoon. Well intended to hunt this afternoon & tomorrow...now on emergency trip to camper to check for damage after hellacious hail storm...apparently had 1 1/2-2 inch pieces of hail! Fingers crossed no damage or minor so can at least sleep inside once we get there...ive been up since 4 AM working a fundraiser marathon...even caffeine wont keep me going much longer! I got a reprieve it seems 2 new zones were added this year so I will be able to start my season on October 1. I will be hunting in an unfamiliar management area but at least I will be hunting, hurray.
I only saw small 6 pt this afternoon. Hunted ahead of a cold front and was hoping for more action. It probably didn't help that the landowner was bailing hay. No big deal. Our archery season last unit February 28 in Arkansas. He finished bailing about an hour and a half before dark, so figured there was a chance. The wind was calm before the cold front moved in at 6:45. Went from light wind from the west to blowing 40 mph in a matter of seconds. I thought it was going to blow the top out of my tree. So it seems every time i cant go to sit, they show up lol. So there was a horrific storm with 1 1/2-2 inch hail that went throughthe town where our camper is....went to check our & relatives...our was fine although a neighbor said he cant believe our windows did not break.
