I posted this in the Smacktalk thread, but I'm going to post it in every team thread so no one misses it: I want to take a minute and clarify a rule in the contest and emphasize the importance of getting your required two different photos with the buck, the bow and you in the pics for entry on the Official Scorecard. The rules read: Scoring system will be as follows: Each participant is allowed to enter ONE antlered deer as their “Buck Score”. This must be the FIRST antlered deer that you harvest during the season. We had an instance last season where someone in the contest killed a buck but failed to get pictures of the buck. This not only resulted in the buck not being counted towards the team total (of course), but also prevented him from entering another buck killed later. ONLY the first buck you kill can be entered, so make sure you don't make the mistake of not getting TWO good pics that have you, the bow and the buck in them.
To take this a little further, I think this rule, of all rules should not be broken. Most of the people in this contest has had this rule pounded into them. However, it seems like every year there is one or two people that screw up then the captains vote if it should be allowed or not. I, for 1, this year will vote not to allow it. I know it sucks, and people mess up, but we all know this rule and there should be no exceptions. After all, that is what the rule says.
Every year. The easiest and most forgotten rule. If someone can’t score deer, watch the video and do your best. If it’s way off somebody will help. Can’t help someone not taking two pics with their bow. Have the deer in the pic and hold the bow vertical in one pic and horizontal in the other (with the deer again pllleeeeeaaaase). I sometimes crack a beer open on the last 1/2 mile home, breaking the law, but i never break the two different picture with deer and bow rule.
Yes, scoring a buck can be tricky, but it's not that difficult. I score all my own bucks and have had some of the nicer ones scored by an official B&C scorer. I have never been off by more than 1" on gross score. Usually I'm like an 1/8 off. So, if you have trouble scoring, I'd be more than glad to help.
Been outside almost all day. I wanted to get a stand hung this morning , I was on schedule but once I got in the logging road there were chanterelle mushrooms everywhere so I picked them for awhile ending up with close to 10 lbs. One stand hung but I’m taking my son back tomorrow to trim lanes. My plan tomorrow is to get another set hung and move 1 more since everything is loaded on the truck from today. We have great weather right now it’s supposed to get down to 43 degrees tonight and tomorrow afternoon looks great to get some stuff done. Shot about 20 arrow’s tonight 1st time all year it wasn’t terrible but it wasn’t great either. I always shot the the deer target better than the block. While out in the woods today the tree I killed my best buck out of I noticed finally feel down. I’ll post some pics tomorrow from a couple of my stands if all goes well.
Alright everyone, we need a team name. Let's get a good one, and maybe one that's never been used. Put your thinking caps on! Let's get 3 or 4 then we'll vote.
I like Triple Threat the best so far. I'll cast my vote for that one unless something better comes along.
Tack me on for triple threat! And for Shawn as captain! We were talking about applying for crop damage permits this year and using them during September, but the found we have a boy on the way come January, so I figured I’d keep September as open as possible and get everything around the house done. So oct 1st it is for me too.
Is anyone good at creating a logo? Let's get a good one. Everyone can look around and we'll see what we can come up with.
