Rushed home from work now in a tree about 100yds from the house. Great wind and no deer was spooked on my walk in. Here’s to opening day!

Finally sitting down for a few minutes, the guy that farms the property dropped by and we had a free celebratory beers.
About 9:15 a doe came through fast, stopped twice and looked behind her and kept going. Just after that a small buck came from the opposite direction and then the buck I shot came running down the same trail the doe was on. He stopped around the small buck for a second and a second buck that I am targeting came in following the same trail the doe was on.
The bigger buck took back off after the doe and I stopped him in a clearing and he ended up facing straight away from me, he didn’t spook and took off after the doe again. I stopped him in the next clearing and he gave me a perfect broadside shot. I took the shot for 25 yards and he took off. Ranged the spot after and it was 32 yards. Got down after I stopped shaking and found the arrow about 15 yards down the trail he took and went up to the house. Took up the track after an hour and a half and found him about 75 yards away from where he was when I shot.

He’s hanging and all cooled off now, I might score him tonight, if not it’ll be tomorrow and I’ll score and enter him. Heck of a day!! Earlier I have tagged a buck in 12 or 13 years if my math is right. IMG_8881.jpeg IMG_8856.jpeg

Let me know what your guys thoughts are, if nothing stands out I will enter him! He’s my biggest buck by 3” and the second biggest we have taken on the farm

Sorry guys I've been awol the last couple days, I've been moving to my newly built house. Great job on the buck. Good luck to you all hunting now. I'm heading up to Ohio this coming Thursday. Still unsure of my hunting possibilities. I've been on the phone with a lot of different people and my son has been checking around with people he knows. Only have about 1 solid lead left. Waiting to hear back on that one.

It looks like I need a new bow. I currently have a bowtec btx 31. It has its 2nd set of limbs on it and I noticed a crack tonight. I’m hoping the shop can get me set up and out the door by Wednesday. They don’t open until noon and I have to be to work by 240 so I think it will be a couple day process. I’m hoping to be hunting again by Thursday. I’ll be leaning Mathews but I’ll shoot a couple different bow to see what’s best. I don’t think I’ll be going back to bowtec but I might get some barnsdale limbs and put on the bow for a backup or to see if my son is interested.

That sucks to hear. They have definitely had some bad years for limb issues.
