All I saw were squirrels and then some turkeys on the way out. Weird. I thought it was gonna be a slam dunk on a doe.
I’m back on stand. 1-1/2 hours late due to some craziness. I walked out of the barn at 3:00 on the dot. 100 yards from the house there is a drainage ditch that’s is overgrown with grass. With the winds whipping I looked down in there and saw one “stalk of grass” that wasn’t blowing in the wind, took another three steps and realized what it was. Hit the ground, took off my backpack and knocked and arrow. Text the family to look out the window and started crawling to the edge of the ditch. Got there and set up, it was a buck that we haven’t had on camera, but from what little bit I could see of the rack, it was super wide. For 20 minutes he stayed put and I got a better look, he was right about 20” wide, 8 point. Not a ton of time length, all about 6”, but he had crazy mass. He stood up once at 30 minutes, but didn’t give me a shot other than a hard quartering to before laying back down. About 30 more minutes and he got up slowly, and spun fast and bounded off without a shot opportunity. Heart rate is finally settling down. the only thing I can think of was with him being only 12 yards from the edge, my scent slipped down over time and swirled in there with the wind. Otherwise I was directly downwind of him
Just a couple small bucks so far from the stand. Doesn’t really matter what I see, this hunt was a blast no matter what
Shot a doe at 2 yards. Another came right up to the blind to check it out. Can’t believe she let me draw on her staring right at me. Gonna hunt the rest of the night and before I look for arrow and trail. Not long after 3 turkeys come by at 10 yards. No idea what happened here. I drew back and fired. The arrow pulled away from the Nock and the bow dry fired. Absolutely terrible sound. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Well, great job on the doe, must have been pretty intense at 2 yards, lol. Sorry about the dry fire. Are you and the bow ok? Good luck on the track. We'll be waiting for pics and more of the story!
I ended up seeing 6 doe after I moved but no shots. I’ll be at it in the morning. Nice job on the doe jgaudiojr.
Bow appears to be fine. I am fine, as well. Thanks. Doe recovered. Sent from my iPhone using Bowhunting.com Forums
Just waiting on daylight here. Beautiful morning, no wind, clear skies, and 35 degrees. Good luck team!!
Gonna call it here shortly. Going to hang a stand and move a couple of cameras around for next weekend. Couple small bucks and a handful of does and fawns this morning. One decent 8 point, really hope he makes it through the year.
