You know, after you’ve spent any decent amount of time on a piece of property, it becomes special. Does to me anyway. The memories made and watching how the timber and landscape changes is hard for some people to understand. It’s also a real kick in the when someone who doesn’t understand takes that away. One of these days, it’s going to happen to me as well. The 80 acres across the road that my dad, cousins, and I have hunted our whole life will be sold out of greed or leased out I imagine. But this year, I’ll get back to this beech tree and carve my name in right under my dads 32 years later. I happened to stumble upon it on the backside of the property. It was a special place to him as it is to me as well hunting aside.
Really, it's not that I've hunted it for 43 years, I lived on it, farmed it, had many family gatherings there, campouts. It's been a special place my entire life. Family can be some of the rudest, cruelest, people out there to their own flesh and blood.
Not really her I'm worried about. I know she'd call the law on me after telling me no and they caught me there. It would not be a good scene.
There is something similar to that on a property I hunt but it looks like a raiders logo it could have been from that landoweners brother who passed away some years ago. I will probably also loose that property in the next few years also, it’s my dad’s cousin owns it and I would never be able to afford it. Shawn that’s a bummer about your situation.
Yeah, this place has everything you could want for whitetails. Over the years I have killed hundreds of deer on this property. Both my first doe and first buck, first bow buck and first bow doe, also the last deer I've taken was on this property. Years back, my one cousin had a fit about how the property was being handled so my aunts, my mom, and my uncle, decided to sell it. At the time I was not in a financial position to buy it. I was also promised my mom's portion as my inheritance but this family scuffle all but did away with that. Low and behold, one of my rich cousins bought it and I thought great, I'll still be able to hunt there, which I did, but now it all came crashing down. I just wish I was in the financial position then, that I'm in now, I would have bought it all to myself and told the rest of them to get lost.
Very terrible to lose something that precious. Similar situation brewing on my wife's family farm. Currently, the farm's tax information is in her fathers name, but its shared amongst four siblings. They want to sell to someone within the family, because once they go it will be split amongst 13 cousins. We are not in a position to buy, but I know her farmer cousins have the money. A true ticking time bomb.
Yeah, I thought I'd always have this place but life happens and sometimes it sucks. Hopefully your situation will end up for the better.
3 of the properties I hunt all the land owners are mid 70s, I’ve been fortunate for many years, there’s is 2k acres of public 8 minutes up the road I’ve been slowly getting familiar with and I have hunted it sparingly the past 2 years that I should spend more time on
I reckon it’s going to be the bean stand for tomorrow evening. Probably the sketchy ladder stand behind the house in the am. Both are pretty low pressure access. The ladder stand will catch does going to bed if they choose to return on the north side of the property. My original plan isn’t going to work bc of the E wind.
My aunt and uncle are here this weekend. They’re trying to talk me into coming up to their farm on Friday. He’s got 100 acres north of Kc Missouri and several big deer on camera. I just happen to have 3 weeks off work starting yesterday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Broadheads sharpened, clothes hung up outside, coffee pot set and everything else set out. I’m ready to get after it tomorrow morning.
Man I go Missouri all the time. I may end up going but with the new little one I’m not sure I’ll get to. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Good luck to everyone who is out this morning! I got an update a half hour ago from the cell cameras, I’m avoiding opening them since I decided not to drive up and hunt this morning
