Well guys im off work for 14 days 8 are normal days off them im taking 4 nights off plus i have a weekend connected. The season starts on the 22nd 7 more days baby I spent the day making some more blinds in good locations so now i have 7 ready to go. Im seeing gobblers and its looking good so far. Saturday is youth season and ill have my 9 year old out there and i set up a pop up for us to conseal his movement and i think its supposed to rain anyway saturday, so we will still get to hunt if we are in a pop up. There was a big tom and a hen 20 yards in front of where i put it this morning The rest of the week is just shooting and getting prepared. good luck guys, Jeff it sounds like you got close.
OK fellas, KY season opens here Saturday. I am packing camp and heading to Cumberland County with a friend of mine (1.5 hrs away) tomorrow afternoon to roost some birds and then camp out for hunting in the morning. It was kind of an odd situation that landed us 1.5 hrs away. We have been there before fishing, and the trout fishing on the Cumberland River is phenomenal. Anyway, the landowner is Jarrod's dads friend who has a permit to grow ginseng. Expensive crop if anyone knows what it is, and the turkey absolutely love eating the seeds. He called and asked us to PLEASE come turkey hunting down there, they are gobbling everywhere, eating the ginseng, apparently the place is loaded with birds. We are going Friday to roost birds and set up camp ( I FINALLY get a chance to test my gear for Alaska), and hunt all day saturday. We plan to head back Saturday night since I have another hunt planned Sunday morning, but that is all dependent on how good the hunting is up there. I won't be able to check in again probably until Sunday night, hopefully with a bird down. I am somewhat handicapped now for this season, since I now am limited to only hunting when a cameraman is available ever since we entered this TV show deal (Can't give details just yet, but it appears we might land ourselves on Sportsmans Channel and others next year on a Drury Outdoors Dream Season type format show) and we HAVE to start getting some good story lines on film. Hopefully our camping/trout fishing/turkey hunting trip this weekend pans out for us. I am up to bat Sat AM with the bow, and mid day we are going to switch and he will hunt with the scattergun. Gotta go load the truck for tomorrow, wish me luck!
good luck trev !!!! Three more days for me and its buisness time. All day if thats what it takes. I have some late morning spots if early dosent work out. Trying to get my 9 year old his first this week end of youth season. It was happinging sat morning until trespassers ruined it. They got booted by the crick!!
Back. Cold, Wet, Whipped, and everything but Bloody. Found out my Gear for Alaska will work great though. Plenty of Birds, with 640 acres of straight up and down ridges...just didn't get it done Saturday and Today it was POURING, we left after 2 hours because of a cameraman and hunting partner LESS than willing to be there. I may head back this year, but it all depends on how the next two weeks go first. Heading out here closer to home Monday and Wednesday.
Sounds like you had an interesting weekend Trev Lol. Sucks you didnt score on anything but atleast you know theres birds there. This comming weekend is the youth weekend, so i'll be out listning about everyday from here on out. Gotta find the boy some birds!
Well youth weekend was a bust for my 9 year old. I had birds on fire and comming, then got totaally messed up by trespassing fishermen. they drove in and parked between the birds and us Day two, a farmer drives by and almost takes out the decoy with a four wheeler Had a BIG bearded hen come by just out of range probably 8" beard. My season comes in Wed I have everything packed other than lunch and water. The birds are going crazy around here and im seeing alot of them. I have the bow sighted in and shooting well, just got to get on a bird and not get busted drawing good luck guys, I hope you all get a crack at a slammer
Just got back from a scouting mission. Let out a deep owl hoot and had a big boy sound off in the distance. Season is 10 days away and I can taste it!!!
Best of luck to ya Al!! I love hearing one gobble after pitching up into the roost.. My season starts when i wake up in the morning, finally
Picture Update, still getting close with no cigar yet. As a team we have got several birds down on footage so far though, which is exciting news. Dave got a decent bird the other day, with a spur missing and an ugly tail fan, but a nice bird none the less. Some pics from our opening weekend trip in Cumberland County, followed by Dave's Bird. Camp was set up just as we were loosing light Friday What's a camp without a fire? Good times with a Buddy since I was 5 years old. Reppin the UC in a cool creek crossing These are what gained us permission to hunt in the first place... No gold on this one? Some scenery shots from about 1/3 to 1/2 way up the ridge we hunted most of the day Saturday, this place was straight up and down. And one of the valley bottom Dave's Bird was no slouch either! I'm beginning to love my camera! Headin out again Friday AM and PM, Sat AM and PM, and Sun AM...Sunday PM we have to get some group pics and bios together for the show, so not much time for hunting. I WILL have a bird down soon guys, don't loose faith just yet! Go hard this weekend Kyle!
We're on the board again, scored this morning. 19 lbs 9" beard 1" spurs. Pics in the general bowhunting section.
Were charging hard now! My season isnt even open yet and we've got two birds on the ground! Friday can't come fast enough!!!
I know AL is still waiting on the opener and i know Kyle got his on the last day so Jeff, Trevor how much season do you guys have left. I can only take one spring bird so im done other than hunting with my boys!
I just picked up a great farm to hunt the remainder of the season, and I have until May 10th to get it done. I still think I will get my bird(s) down before the close of season....just taking longer than I thought...such as neighbors shooting birds out from under you when calling them in literally 50 yards away. You get the idea...we have hit a few bumps, should have turkey breasts in the freezer, but still holding optimism to finish strong.
Tomorrows the big day! Its raining like hell out but im going to go try to get roosted tonight, probably wont be able to hear to well but its worth a shot :d Trev our season is open till may 30th, if your looking for some late season action!
