Team 3 - The 3 Buckateers

Finally have meat in the freezer. I can’t even remember the last time I killed a doe with a gun. Always pass them but couldn’t do it this morning at 60yds.

I will be out with my gun a bit this coming week to try and get a buck. I don’t have much time off work and with daylight savings it’s real hard.

Really wish I wouldn’t have hit that one in the shoulder. Those opportunities don’t happen often.

I will have some chances with my bow on some friends places that have food in the coming weeks (after the rut).

Congrats on the doe MN!

Saw a bb and nice 8 point that I grunted in but would not fully commit. Hung up at 45 yds behind brush. Went home for a couple hours and back in tree at 3:30. Had a spike pushing does around and almost had a shot opportunity on the biggest doe but she caught me moving. She didn’t spoke hard or blow but I messed it up none the less. I took off work Monday and it will be 22 tomorrow morning with chance of snow tonight. Hoping that keeps them moving.

 

Firearms season opens up this Saturday. I will probably take whatever gives me an opportunity the next few days. I still have 2 archery tags.

Sat all day. Missed a nice one right at first shooting light with my rifle.

Face is wind burnt like no other and I’m feeling defeated.

Today was the most cake shot you could ask for. If I was to my stand 5 minutes before I would have been ready and not rushed the shot but it still felt good. 2025. I might get back out Thursday we will see.

 

Man this has been a rough season so far for me, I’ve been picking the wrong stands and apparently took off the wrong days haha. Cams show deer moving in one area, I go sit a stand there, and see nothing. So far, I’ve only had a couple shot chances, one a small fawn, the other one a nice 2.5 year old. Been frustrating so far, but I’ll be back out this coming weekend for one last chance before rifle season opens up.

 

I’ve adopted the stick with it mentality but boy is it hard. After gun season will be a true test. 0 food. All deer on 100% edge.

But I know from previous years cam pictures the week leading up to November 20th big bucks have been on their feet. Gives a guy a slimmer of hope.

Tomorrow our gun opener starts. All my stuff is out and ready for bed alarm is should go off around 4. Taking the folding chair out. Supposed to be in the mid 20s with almost no wind but maybe east at 2mph what they are calling for.

 

My daughter got her first deer yesterday! Half rack with 4 on one side. Good sized body

 

Awesome. That’s a great deer let alone a first deer.

Gun season is over with. Taking a few days to regroup and I'll be back out with my bow trying to get a buck or doe down. We do not have food on the property so it will be slim pickens. Keep at it guys.

 

Pretty slow gun opener for me in MI this weekend, taking some time off from the woods until thanksgiving. I will be out a couple of weekends in December with the bow to try and get a doe on the scorecard at least. All of our biggest shooters lived through the gun opener so there might be an opportunity come late season for one of those too. It has been a great season so far for seeing good bucks, and some great ones, but shot opportunities have been nonexistent.

 

Opening of gun is this weekend, and I was out with my boys. One of my sons made a perfect shot on his first deer, this nice 5 pointer! He’s super excited and I’m proud of him. I know this is a bowhunting contest, but just wanted to share… think he’s hooked for life now

Slow slow slow slow here. I’ve been out a few times since gum season ended. Nothing to show for it yet. Watch the Vikings/Packers today. Last warmer day tomorrow before the temps turn cold.
