good luck in Colorado, @Justin Did you get a mulie tag also? Be pretty BA for our first team buck to be a big-assed mule deer.
YEEEESSS! I completely agree!! Good luck!! Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Heading back to Maryland with a trash in my pocket. Really warm and elk were not responsive or too fired up. Averaged 6.5 miles a day trying to cover elk territory. Called in a spike and a calf on consecutive days but all the big boys were having none of it. Tough hunt but beautiful country. I'll be after whitetails and sika in a few days trying to wash this funk off. Sent from my SM-N981U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
Still a really cool experience! Good luck! Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
First sit on my property since we bought it this year. Neighbor says he's seen deer here about every night... Hopefully there are some on the morning also. Zero scouting or game cameras... After dropping my stand from the top of my sticks, what could possibly go wrong... Smh
Opening Day in MI is this Friday...I am so unprepared. Last 2 weeks of Sept/first 2 weeks of October are hell at work. Plus trying to get this house on the market. Don't think I will be out for Opening Day, asphalt guy can fit me in starting Wed so hopefully I have a new driveway by Friday.
On the way north while Campers still open to do some fishing....maybe THEN he will let me go huntingLOL Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
2.5 days into our 5 day hunt. We've been in elk almost every timeout except this morning was really slow. Last night we had 4-5 bulls screaming within 150 yards, but we ran out of light. Came back in this morning and it was silent. Heading to a different spot on the ranch tonight, hoping for some better luck. 10 guys in camp right now. 3 kills, 2 wounds and 5 of us left still hunting.
Good luck Justin.! It was a slow last weekend for Me , saw a few does and had a young 5 pointer for the 3rd time in 2 weeks. at 20 yds, just need his daddy or grand paw to do the same. I did get in some tractor time, bush hogged M y summer plot down and plan to plant this weekend, the deer really liked the freshly mowed plot.
Long story short - I botched a shot on a nice 5x5 this morning. No excuses, just made a bad shot. Hit him low in front of the shoulder - 100% brisket. We jumped him a few hours after the shot and he hightailed it over the mountain and out of our lives. The policy at the ranch we're hunting is if you draw blood on a bull, you're done. No second chances. I can try and shoot a cow tomorrow if I want, but it's going to be cold and rainy. I may just hang out at camp, drink coffee, and get some work done. Time to regoup and focus on whitetails.
and eat some humble pie. I don't mean any offense by that- I have wounded more animals than I care to admit. But every one makes me a better hunter and I hope a better man. I have said many times on this forum that one of my most valued facets of hunting is how GD humbling it can be. Also, one of the things I respect about BHOD is you guys are not afraid to show it all, good bad and ugly. Luckily sounds like this bull will live to become a bigger, older, and wiser animal. Here's to all of us doing the same.
**** happens and a lot needs to happen perfectly...too bad it went the other way. Hopefully a good time and good vid adventure follows. One of the few benefits of public land hunting over private...though, if /when you make a bad shot it's your own ethics and regrets you wrestle with.
I have been working the past few day at my camp getting my food plots ready to plant. The ground is broke up and I’m waiting on the right weather conditions. October 15 is my opener.
Well, fishing has gone well! Too hot for my liking to be sitting in the tree stand anyway. At least thats how Im going to justify it! Sent from my SM-N960U using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
We left CO at 5:00 am on Thursday morning and got back to Todd's house at 1:00 am this morning. That was a LOOOOONG ride! We had a great time and Todd managed to connect with a bull right at last light of the last night, so not all was lost. I'm still sore over my bad hit, but it is what it is. Nothing I can do about it now. I woke my son up for school at 6:30 this morning and the first words out of his mouth were "Dad, are we going hunting this weekend?" Sounds like I'll be doing some guiding of my own for awhile. Hopefully the weather cooperates and we can get out.
