Been home from my trip to Illinois for a little over a week now and have yet to get into a stand here in Alabama. Gun season came in today and it stays in until February 10. I will be carrying my youngest son tomorrow afternoon to the camp to see if we can put him on one of the bucks that we have on camera. I will start putting in more Treestand time from here on out to the end of season. Our rut normally starts around Christmas. The next doe that gives me a shot opportunity I’m going to take it. Good luck and congrats to all the kills.

Nothing tonight but a fat old man walking through the swamp edge with 20 minutes of shooting light left. Ahhh the life of a public land hunter.

Bad news for me yesterday. Got pictures of a pretty good buck yesterday went to hunt last night and found out I no longer have permission on the River property. I didn’t hunt it often maybe 1-3 times a year when the wind and weather was right. My son shot his first buck off there and I shot some good bucks off there too. Pretty bummed right now! This is my sons first buck he’s seventeen now.

The LIKE is for the pic, not losing the property.

Dang, that sucks!! Losing property is never good.

I hunted 3x this weekend and saw a total of one deer. BUT, it was the deer I was looking for. Rattled him into 35 yards but he was on the wrong side of the tree and wouldn't commit since he didn't see the source of the fighting he heard. They don't get old by being stupid.

The good news is he's moving around the farm pretty good still - covering a mile or more each night. So he's still very killable and we have a lot of late-season food around. I'll probably try him tomorrow morning and Thanksgiving morning as well.

This coming weekend I'm bringing my son out to my lease to try and get him on a buck of some sort. The deer are starting to hit our standing beans pretty good so we're going to sit in the blind with the buddy heater and have ourselves some fun.

Spent the last few days at the camp. Both of my nephews got their first deer we had a blast and made lots of memories. I was able to bow hunt this morning had a 2 year old 8pt and 6pt come cruising by. We are about a month away from our rut.

I found a good scrape line and had a buck loop around me Thurs 30min before legal.

Yesterday, I knew where I wanted to sit, but had a bad entry trying to take a shortcut... Got into absolute thick insanity (briars, vines and dense pine). Eventually got to my spot and he came in 5 minutes before legal on a different trail. I could hear heavy antler hitting trees as he winded me.

I moved in the afternoon, for an evening sit, closer to a bedding area... I heard shots late afternoon. I'm pretty sure he was the only Mature buck on the 200ac public parcel.

I need to find new land to hunt.

    that pic was him?
I don't know NC deer levels, but I find it hard to believe he was only mature buck. They are some sneaky devils and if you were talking 50-100 I would agree but 200 is pretty big. And while I hunt mostly big parcels and haven't really experienced it, can't tell you how many shows I have seen where a big mature or bully buck gets killed, a new one moves right in.

Maybe, but I plan to give this parcel a rest for the rest of the year...
